The best thing about this place is that it is near the Stanford campus and in "downtown" Palo Alto. Prices were also good. Unknowingly, I booked a room with a shared bath (down the hall and around the corner), which was okay but maybe too much like campus. Things were a little frayed, and the place generally looked like it... More

We love this place! After several days on the road, staying at cookie-cutter chain hotels, it was a real breath of fresh air to visit the Cardinal. It is a 1920s hotel with much of the elegant decor intact, and the things which have been modernized have been selected very carefully to match the existing style. Even the sinks, faucets... More

I enjoyed our stay. The hotel room was very small -- so small that the hangers in the closet were too big for the closet door to close. It's a very cozy, compact room. The sink is in the actual bedroom and the bathroom is compact. However, there is free wifi and lots of places to connect gadgets. The location... More

This hotel is spot on! Fabulous service, super clean rooms and an unbeatable location. The Cardinal offers superior value while also providing completely updated rooms. When I do business at Stanford, there is no other place to stay - - the in-downtown location provides opportunities for a couple, a solo traveler or even families! Plenty to do, multiple offerings for... More

Stayed here for two nights, and loved the in-town location with lots of restaurants and shops within a few block radius of the hotel. My room was on the second floor, with a sink in the room and toilet and shower rooms in the hallway. This worked fine - never had to wait to use either one. The room itself... More

Their website with the pictures and info are an accurate and true representation of the hotel. Staff was courteous and helpful. The shared shower and bathroom areas were always clean and properly maintained. The parking situation is accurately described in the web page and the staff will give you guidance if you have any questions. I had a room which... More

Stayed here when bringing our son to look at Stanford. The hotel is located in the heart of downtown Palo Alto. There are several restaurants and shops nearby and the lively evening scene is worth exploring. On the downside, if you have rented a car, the hotel offers no parking. You have to use the municipal lot across the street... More

The hotel is very "retro, including the elevator. Excellent location downtown Palo Alto, walking distance to campus. Many rooms have shared bathroom facilities but some are en suite. Nice b'fast crepe place nearly next door. Downside is that there is a lot of street nice from traffic and people. I was booked on a weekend so perhaps especially so, even... More

The hotel is an excellent location, close to Stanford, its margeuritte shuttle service, Caltrain and surrounded by university ave and as well close to the whole foods market, fraiche and traditional diners. Next door there is a terrific manicure/pedicure shop too. The hotel has generously sized and well fitted public rooms and the accommodation in the double rooms with bathrooms... More

location, location. Can beat this one! Even though there were now private bath or toilet!! Well it was no problem at all. The room were very nice, the beds, pillows and duvets you wanted to take home:) Don't let the shared bath and toilet scare you away
