It's an overpriced motel with a nice breakfast and free wifi. Typical motel floor plan with the open closet/wall between the bed and the sink, dirty bathtub, dirty walls, rickety air conditioner. I wouldn't have minded so much if I paid about 70% less than the posted rate. The Palo Alto area is filled with these low quality high priced... More

Dear guest, Thank you for sharing your feedback about your recent stay with us. I am very sorry to learn we failed in providing you a satisfactory stay. I was particularly disappointed to find out that room cleanliness was an issue in your room. We follow a strict room inspection system that has been effective enough to earn us great... More

My husband booked this place cause it was inexpensive compared to the other Palo Alto hotels & it was fine. Yes it is NOT a super glitzy hotel it more a motel that has been updated with "Zen"ish look. The room was quaint & clean. I liked the big thick bathrob, the small welcome gift and that our room included... More

Visiting my son at Stanford we stayed in this great old motel beautifully converted in "Zen" style with tasteful but simplistic furnishing. Walking distance to food and coffee, and short driving to the college and and the rest of Palo Alto. Great central location. Nice breakfast.

I really enjoyed our stay at the Zen. It was peaceful, tranquil, and very upscale. The staff was amazing and their attention to detail was flawless. The breakfast was great and the location of the motel was perfect. They provided all the extras like bottled water, fruit, coffee, tea, robes, slippers, wifi, cookies, microwave, fridge...... I would recommend it to... More

The Hotel is a redone motel with nice touches and a good breakfast included. The beds were very, very, very soft. Too soft. Other than that is was a nice place to stay for one night. It's very close to Stanford and the Tesla showroom, if you want to do a test drive!

Perhaps the best souped up motel that I have ever seen. Fantastic looking rooms, great breakfast and oodles of style. Perhaps the most expensive motel I have seen at $290 a night so I guess the two would add up. But most importantly, for me at least, perhaps the worst mattress that I have ever seen. If you prefer a... More

Dear Rahul, Although I was excited to read that you found our rooms and amenities fantastic, I am very sorry to learn that you did not ending up having a good night sleep. The goal of our pillow-top mattresses is to provide an additional layer of upholstery that gives them an additional plush. We find that many guests welcome this,... More

I really enjoyed my stay at the Zen. It is really more like a classy motel than a hotel, but it is very nice. The staff was friendly, the rooms immaculate, and the neighborhood is quiet. The fixtures in the rooms are upscale. Free WiFi, nice HD TV, fridge, micro, robes, slippers, the works. There is a Walgreens directly across... More

Most of the times I have stayed at this hotel the surrounding noise has been minimal. The hotel provides nice touches like free bottled water and a selection of teas and fresh cookies. The shower provides great pressure and I didn't hear plumbing from other rooms.

My husband had major surgery at Standford Univ Hospital and the extended stay hotels were booked. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. We had one of the kitchenette suites and anything I needed like a cutting board or strainer was cheerfully purchased that day and provided by the lovely staff. The housekeepers were perfectionists and very kind,... More

The Zen is a fully restored 1960's motel. The actual physical structure was saved during the renovation but everything has been fully and thoughtfully restored/modernized. The rooms are super clean with nice sheets, duvets/ down comforters, new carpeting, a good selection of bath products including lip moisturizer with sunscreen; rooms also have a nice balcony to enjoy the breezes. The... More
