Having arrived in the area without reservations, we "found" Sunset Inn randomly when we stopped at the Monterey Visitors Center. Didn't know what to expect but the rate was a very reasonable $99. They were still doing some remodeling (thus the lower rate) but our room was very clean and comfortable. The location, so close to the water, could not... more

The location was great, close to the water, downtown monterey, 17 mile drive entrance. You drive a block and right away you start to enjoy the scenery of the coast, ocean, lighthouse, and some deer. The room was small but recently remodeled with fireplace and flat screen tv. Our stay could of been perfect but the guest in the next... more

My husband and I stayed here for two nights (Sunday and Monday) in the beginning of May 2009. We were celebrating our 13th Wedding Anniversary and this place added to the romance. The staff - We were greeted by Barbara who was very helpful with getting us connected to the internet and with finding local places to dine. The room... more

I have traveled through Monterey/Carmel many times on business over the last few years and I am SO HAPPY to have found the Sunset Inn! Recommended by my colleague, the Sunset Inn is definitely a great value price-wise compared to other hotels in Monterey and I used the Wireless Internet access extensively during my stay (thumbs up for basic business... more

My wife and I were visiting the Monterey Peninsula while on our honeymoon when we happened to find the Sunset Inn. This little Inn is remarkable in terms of its location and its price. The rooms were well appointed and very comfortable. Staff here was amazing as they gave us a bottle of champagne once they found out it was... more

Management response from

This guest refused any attempt we made to rectify the internet situation. The guest's wife came in every day to complain even though we made every attempt to get them a better signal. We offered to room move them. They didn't want to. We moved the actual wireless routers from room to room trying to insure this guest would get...

Pacific Grove is a great place to visit and we would say that a stay at the Sunset Inn is worth considering, especially given it's location just one block from the breathtakingly beautiful sea shore. The cabin style room we were allocated (across from the reception) was fine for a night. The room was nicely appointed with a fireplace, fridge... more

We actually found this place after reading about it in the San Francisco Chronicle last week. Made a quick trip down to get away for the night and we weren't disappointed! The room was very chic and had a small view of the ocean. The rain forced us to stay in a bit more than we had hoped, but my... more

Our stay was for only one night. The small but cosy room in this refurbished motel was very clean, and nicely decorated in deep, vibrant colors. The fabrics and bedding were crisp and fresh. The fireplace/heater was a nice touch, as it was a coolish November evening. A lot of attention went into the details of the stylish bathroom as... more
