We love the Chateau and the On Site Restaurant the Elderberry House! Pulling in to their gates is like stepping into another world. The beautifully appointed Chateau is a peaceful welcoming getaway with gracious service. We were greeted at our car by three staff whose only job was to meet our needs. Our room was a fabulous old English style... More

Spent 2 nights here after backpacking 5 nights on the JMT with another couple - the contrast was spectacular. Plush, civilized, gastronomical delight after rustic beauty and camp food. Can't recommend the juxtaposed experiences nearly enough. Erna's restaurant was spectacular both nights. The rooms each have character and the service was impeccable.

Here's your oasis after spending a day hiking on the dusty trails of Yosemite. You may believe it is a bit far from the park center as you're obliged to reach it via the sourth gate, but we found ourselves reviewing our day and going over plans for the next. You can expect lux service, super bedrooms, etc. Gourmet diner,... More

We stayed few nights in this gorgeous hotel. It only has some 10 rooms, and I felt like being a special guest at someone's private villa. We enjoyed our breakfast outside in the mornings before heading to national parks. We got picnic lunches, best ever, from the hotel and in the evenings we enjoyed dinners at their restaurant. The rooms... More

This French "chateau" in the most unlikely place is an experience not to be missed. Yes, the rooms are pricey, but perfect for that special celebration. Or, when in the area and staying elsewhere, go enjoy their dining room for dinner or for their extraordinary weekend brunch. You will be served course after course in elegant, European style in the... More

Once again our stay at Chateau du Sureau could not have been better. The property is beautiful and in absolutely pristine condition. We've stayed in the Thyme and Camomile rooms and like the Thyme somewhat better as it's larger. This place is well worth the money. Staff is efficient and friendly, and the owner make one feel like you're at... More

Very exquisite elegant place, recondite in a beautiful French-style garden, which gives a peaceful romantic feeling. At first, when we arrived, we were surprised to not find a TV in the room, bud then we realized that it wouldn't be wanted here. However, we were promised to have WiFi, and that was missing on the first day, and all other... More

I am lucky to have stayed in several 4 star hotels and b&bs. NOTHING compares to the Chateau du Sureau. From the beautifully appointed room complete with tea sandwiches and fresh brewed iced tea and cookies upon arrival to the turndown service where they tucked a bookmark into my paperback, I savored every moment of being a guest. Emily and... More

My husband and I recently stayed here for 3 nights as part of a honeymoon tour of the USA. It was by far the most expensive accommodation of our holiday, however it was also by far the most comfortable and luxurious. From the moment of our arrival, when we were greeted at the front stairs by Leslie, we were made... More

We just returned from a week at Chateau du Sureau, celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary. The trip was the latest in our ongoing love affair with the Chateau, a most magical and special place in our hearts. As always, the entire experience from arrival to departure was simply fabulous. Proprietor Erna Kubin-Clanin has created an oasis of calm, elegance, personalized... More
