This is a gem of a place. It has style and charm. The location is quiet and even a little secluded to give it a relaxing safe feeling. The staff is great and the rooms and grounds are well taken care of. The beds were comfortable and there was a sink and fridge in the room. Very comfortable.

Recently I stayed in the Sacramento area and booked a room at the Lions Gate. I found the room a bit small and in need of a little paint and a new carpet. However I found many good things which far exceeded the bad. The room had a refrigerator, coffee maker and nice size tv. Although the room was small... More

I am so glad that this previous military facility is being put to good, practical use. The renovations are tasteful, and the historical touches are fascinating. Housekeeping staff was friendly, efficient and helpful. Wait staff in the dining room was among the best I have seen. Front desk staff was polite and responsive. The stay had a few snafus, but... We spent 3 nights as part of a group (approx 35 people) for meetings and an award ceremony honoring my husband. A number of people in our party were given beautifully appointed rooms with whirlpools and fresh updated furniture. We had a suite (separate living room, bedroom and bath). Our rooms were clean and walls freshly painted (dull cream) but... More

Never got to stay at the Lions Gate Hotel. They were oversold and farmed me out to another hotel. When I went to check in, that's when I found out I was farmed out to another hotel. The staff were very rude and totally not helpful in finding out how to get to the new hotel. I would never recommend... More

I stayed for four nights during a recent banjo convention. Yes the facility is old, however the room was recently refurbished. It was clean, nicely sized and comfortable. The air condition system is older and somewhat noisy, but not an issue. Housekeeping was efficient. The grounds are well-cared for and the restaurant was fine. Staff were friendly and helpful. Overall... More

The only reason to stay here is if you have a very early event the following morning at the McClellan Conference Center because it is a short 2 block walk from the hotel to the conference center. The hotel looks ok on the outside, but the rooms are small and old. This is a military base that has been refurbished.... More

I have stayed at Lions Gate on four separate occasions for three nights each since January. I tried not to be too critical, given the fact that conference centers are a premium in Sacramento, and the organization sponsoring the training is trying to balance a number of competing needs, including reasonable price. That said, I'm so underwhelmed by this hotel.... More

We stayed here for the celebration of our 25th Wedding Anniversary after renting the main ballroom for the dinner/dancing portion. The room was more than adequate. It had a jacuzzi and a living room. The bed was not as comfortable as I was hoping--hence the 4 star rating. Overall, it was a good experience and I would probably stay there... More
