We just returned from a road trip to Lassen Volcanic, staying at the Red Castle Inn in Nevada City going and returning to keep our daily drive time down to 3 hours. The Garrett Suite, with 2 bedrooms, was charming and the feather beds knocked us out. As others have said, the breakfasts were DELISH (strawberry cobbler, bacon quiche, fresh... More

If you like historic buildings, please go. But know that there will be so much clutter you wont' be able to see to tops of anything. Relics, book and stuffed animals everywhere. Breakfast is decent, but served in the hallway. And, if you go in the summer, make sure you don't get the top floor, as there is no central... More

Each year on our wedding anniversary, we visit the Red Castle in Nevada City, CA. The rooms are classically decorated, it's in the huge trees away from the interesting town of Nevada City, yet it is just a five minute walk away from town. We've stayed in every room and each has a special charm. The owners, Conley and Mary... More

Elegant and unpretentious, the Red Castle Inn sits placidly fanning herself at the top of Prospect Street; a grand old lady who wears a thin veil separating the past from the present. This historic property is one of the first B&Bs in California, and as such, has had many years of experience to assure that your time here is spent... More

My husband and I have stayed at the Red Castle on many occasions since the early 1980s. I've lost count but think we have lodged there at least 20-25 times. In our opinion this inn is one of the best in providing a glimpse of the Victorian era. The owners have gone out of their way to decorate the inn... More

Great location, very good breakfast, charming hosts. Shared the adorable two bedroom garret suite with a friend and it was very nice and comfortable. It was an easy walk to downtown Nevada City. Mary Louise and Conley were very accommodating. It's a lovely old historic inn.

We had the distinct pleasure of staying at the Red Castle Inn on September 14, 2013. Mary Louise checked us in and was just as nice as could be. She informed us about all of the historical books in the parlor/living room and told us the time for breakfast in the am. The grounds are lush and peaceful with amp,e... More

This historic building sits in the heart of Nevada City. Each room is lavishly decorated with antiques. The decor is truly outstanding. But, and this is the deal breaker, the hosts treat their guests like annoying unwelcome visitors. I have never, repeat never, experienced such odd behavior by B&B hosts.

Ok, who cares that it's haunted? I slept like a baby, and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. My room was gorgeous and the food was so good, I felt guilty for not eating it all ( there was enough for about 4 people!) If this Inn is haunted, and I'm a bit sensitive to those kinds of things, I have to... More

The nice thing about old houses is they're infused with character. The walls practically ooze with history. But you get unexpected and quirky results when you squeeze modern conveniences into a room that wasn't designed for them. We had the Forest View room where I woke up staring at the sink. The toilet was on the other side of the... More
