My wife and I have stayed at NQI many times over the past 10 years. A highlight was when we stayed around Christmas time several years ago at the same time as when Ed Asner stayed there while in Nevada City to preview the Hallmark movie The Christmas Card, which he starred in and was filmed around there the year... What was once a hidden gem is now a sad motel in need of some major updating. The train ride is long gone and now the restaurant has closed. The pretty waterfall is still available but there is no inviting area to sit and enjoy the view. Our motel room was clean but the furnishings were very dated and the... More

I am in Grass Valley/Nevada City periodically and refuse to pay the high prices at the other inns/hotels. Some are better than others but they are usually overpriced for average service and property. Northern Queen is nice, albeit slightly dated. What they provide are comfy rooms, cabins, or chalets. For the price, they are neat and clean. Check in was... More

This isn't a 5 star hotel nor does it pretend to be. The grounds are remnants of what looks like what was once a majestic hotel and 'resort' experience. If you can get past that and see this place for what it is, you'll be pleasantly surprised. Rooms are roomy and clean, there's no shortage of parking, and it's just... More

The Inn is located just outside town, five minute pleasant walk. The rooms are decent. Don't expect any amenities except WIFI. I would stay here again. I was travelling the area and it makes a clean place to sleep.

Okay...our stay this time was so awful I actually complained...a once comfy cabin with a pet stained carpet, torn sheets, no Internet service, no heat, no pool and no tasty, friendly restaurant. After years of pleasant visits, it was beyond disappointing...all except for the sympathetic receptionist who apologized profusely and gave us a generous credit. She promises that the new... More

My Family and I used to stay at the "Northern Queen Inn" when it was a beautiful hotel with so much charm and ambiance you would never want to leave. From the Narrow Gauge Railroad that travels through the Lodge Pole Pines to the Chinese Cemetery to the Restaurant that actually has a large tree growing directly through the center... More

This definitely was not worth $110 a night. The receptionist was exceedingly rude, there was hair in the bathtub, and the room was no better than any $35 a night hotel i have ever stayed in. Not particularly convenient to anything.

The Northern Queen was a good deal and it was totally clean. Great water pressure, and a fridge were bonuses. This place was an amazing gem in it's day. A beautiful garden with paths and benches and deer and bunnies abounding everywhere... and a big network of an old trolley system through mines and mining remnants awaits your curious ramble.... This place used to have a very nice restaurant. The setting at this Inn is very nice, woodsy, little natural waterfall, cool train car. This place is very tired looking. Great shower pressure, but lousy heating. I may try again if I see she gets some tender loving care and opens the restaurant again.
