Only stayed one night. Made my decision on this hotel based on tips posted here. Room was clean, good cable but bad beds. Extremely soft. Hotel is located near I-5 expressway, there is some noise from it but overall the room was quiet. There are two entrances to this hotel, the other entrance has a locked gate. There is a... more

I recently stayed a few days at the Howard Johnson Express Inn in National City. At first I was concerened about the area, but after my first night all my concerens were gone. I don't know where to start. I was searching for a room on-line not realizing it was the week of Comic Con in San Diego. I came... more

The hotel Mgrs all shifts were nice , friendly and helpful. They had good restaurant, sight seeing and travel information. The rooms were neat and well maintained and the cleaning staff did an excellent job cleaning the room. I will stay there again if I go back to that part of California. more

Prior to arriving, we were absolutely terrified because of the awful reputation National City has. We expected the worst. We were wrong!!! The motel was literally right off the 5, in between the rodeway and super 8. Quiet street, not anywhere near the "nasty" of "Nasty City" as the car rental agents called it. The manager Neil was so pleasant... more

While I must agree that eating locations near the hotel were dismal, its not on Hotel row and it is in more of an industrial area. We were very pleased with the hotel and the way we were treated. We spent 2 nights there, and were gone during the day doing the sightseeing things,. found no dead bugs and had... more

Both of our rooms had tons of roaches. One of the rooms didn't have a working lock on the door, and on the second morning around 6am one of the hotel staff entered our room without knocking, the same room without the working lock. The neighborhood is terrible. more

All my belongings including an expensive laptop were robbed out of my room while I was out. The manager's avoided me and after several calls the receptionist claims that the managers don't have a schedule. I have not been reimbursed nor have they even refunded the charge for my stay. If you ask me this the shadiest hotel I've seen. more

Overall it was OK, but not exactly in the best area of San Diego. At least the rooms were a good size and everything was clean, and everything worked. They seemed to be refurbishing some of the rooms, so part of it was in a state of semi-demolition. Just a pity about the location, but that's the way it goes... more

This hotel is barely "okay". Some would rank it as terrible depending on what you can tolerate, what is available in San Diego (Jul 4), and what you are willing to spend. It was ok for us as we were out from 9:00am - 9:00pm doing the zoo, Seaworld and Legoland and were only there to sleep.Good Things: Smells clean... more
