During our stay on March 8-9, 2014 we experienced a night of chaos in the parking lot which Mangament neglected to rectify. A group of VW campers set up their BBQ, lawn chairs and adult libations which led to an astonishing safety hazard. Party started at 3:30pm and was finally shut down by law enforcment at 1:30am after numerous complaints... More

Haven't stayed in the historic building so this review is just for the "modern" rooms. Maybe in 1965 they were modern! The furnishings, bed, tv, bathroom--all of it is outdated and in various states of disrepair. The room was not immaculate (I have stayed in older places, that made up for the outdated room by being the best in every... More

My wife and I along with our daughter, son-in-law and grandson (5 mo.) stayed in room 15, the Daniel Webster room, for one night. (Kind of a creepy looking guy really!) This room is upstairs right over the saloon so we were told it would be noisy until about 2 AM, and we took the room with that in mind.... More

A group of 15 of us chose the Murphys Hotel to hold a high school reunion (since we actually graduated from a military high school overseas) ....we all rented rooms in the newer section for a Friday and Saturday night. Yes, the bar area is LOUD on weekend nights - but ...we had no issues with noise in our rooms.... More

I spent a friday and saturday night in October 2013 ; Iwas part of a largish group which took about half the rooms of the "motel" units. The remaining units were taken by a wedding party being held at the hotel on Saturday night. Two of my group stayed in the updated Gordon Ramsey rooms. Very nice and stylish those... More

Pleasant surprise in small town. Stayed in a "newer" room. Bathroom was tiny but totally adequate. Fun decor. Staff was exceptionally friendly. On site restaurant breakfast was excellent. Dinner a disappointment

We stayed in room 107, for a one night stay on 9/15/13.( my brother stayed in room 108, it's and end room and slightly larger). Rooms 107 & 108 are the two rooms that Gordon Ramsey made over for the TV series Hotel Hell. The updated rooms, are much nicer than the original(we stayed in room 106, about 6 years... More

The town is wonderful with lots of great dining, warm people, and wine tasting rooms that are unpretentious and the prices reasonable and inexpensive. I love the small town feel and the lack of commercialization. I imagine Napa was like Murphys ages ago before it became this luxury destination. Anyhow, this hotel was great for the experience and my husband... More

My sister booked this hotel for our 2 night stay. After the first night I was ready to check out early and find another hotel. We stayed in room 104 The beds were extremely uncomfortable. It was extremely loud. The people leaving the bar in the main hotel decided to hang out in front of our room all hours of... More

I booked a room here for myself, my husband and my sister. The reservation process was very easy and the lady who answered the phone when I called very nice. They were also very nice when we checked in. The rooms are as my title says spartan. We stayed in 104. It was very very very loud. The beds were... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Murphys Historic Hotel is the longest continually operated hotel in California. The Hotel was built in 1856 and we try to keep our nine historic rooms as close to that time period as possible. If you are to stay within the Historic Hotel you are without T.V., Phone, A/C, and of course a bathroom... but how often do you get to share a shower down the hall? You may bump into a ghost while enjoying a little piece of history. We also have twenty modern hotel rooms that have been improved more recently with new T.V.'s, Beds, A/C's, and Windows. We do have plans to remodel all bathrooms but Rome wasn't built in a day. We also have a full service restaurant which is open for breakfast, lunch, & dinner 365 days a year along with a full service saloon. The Murphys Historic Hotel is also within walking distance to over 20 different wine tasting rooms and our community park. While you are here please let me know how we are doing. We hope to see you soon!Sincerely, Brian ... more   less
