The Travelodge mascot is a sleepy bear because he can't get any shut-eye. We have had double-paned windows for more than 10 years. We have a 24-hour front desk who accomodates any and all guest requests whether if be a noisy room nearby or anything else. Our walls are standard and are not paper thin. WE have upgraded the rooms completely in the last year.
The room, 204, had new furniture, new tile in the bathroom, new bedding, new carpet, well, almost new everything. The layout of the room was very dated. We had a major leak in the ceiling of our room when the upstairs guest took a shower! Water pouring through into our room. On top of that the toilet was broken and wouldn't flush - horrible. Our rooms have all brand new furniture, carpeting, bedding and curtains. We have newer Amana air conditioner/heaters and they provide excellent ventilation. We have double-paned windows to help with warmer and cooler weather. We checked the room for overall cleanliness and found no problems. My husband and I stayed here over a weekend. I picked this hotel because a) it was cheaper than most Monterey accomodations b) it stated on the website that the rooms had been updated and the pictures did look quite nice and clean. 36 of our 51 rooms have the newer duvet queen bed topping with exposed pillows. 15 of our 51 rooms have a queen bedspread designed to go with the curtains and new carpeting. I think everybody who has reviewed this so far needs to remember that it is not a 5 star hotel. It wasn't too basic though. We spent four great nights at the Downtown Monterey Travelodge in January. Weather was sunny and perfect - higher temps than usual for late January. Our room was super clean and super quiet. By the end of April, 2009 we have all new carpets and furniture in all rooms. Our new pillowtop beds, 100% non-smoking, no pets policy appeals to many of our repeat customers. The room seamed dirty and shabby with a strange odour. The hairdryer did´nt work and it was really cold at night. The bed was ok and the complimentary breakfast was nice, otherwise I should have rated the hotel one point! more

Perhaps it was just good timing - rooms had all just been refitted - but we were really impressed by this Travelodge. Comfortable room and a brand new springy bed. Breakfast was included and was buffet style. Great price and just round the corner from some very good restaurants! Just one word of caution, soundproofing between rooms could be improved. more
Thank you for noticing the first of our new, professionally designed rooms. Our Simmons Pillowtop beds have been in place for several years. Our price tends to be affordable for Downtown Monterey and there are over 40+ restaurants within 3 blocks. The ability to take a short to downtown, historic Monterey is what helps make us unique.
