Only stayed one night but we loved our stay, large hotel, comfy bed, good size room, great location walking distance to fisherman wharf, we also walked to Cannery Row good 15 min walk. I enjoyed hearing the sea lions at night. I would love to come back one day and I recommend this hotel.

We stayed at Portola for 3 nights and fell in love with the hotel. At first, we were hesitant about booking because we thought it looked dated, but considering it's Monterey, it's expected that most of the properties there will be on the older side. We're so happy we decided to stay here! Property is beautiful and welcoming! Check in... More

My family all loved this hotel. The rooms were nice and big with two chairs, a desk, extra large TV and large bathrooms. The two rooms we rented had huge showers but no tubs. They have a very large sink/vanity area so there's room for more than one person's belongings. The bathroom tile and overall room decor is fresh and... More

I stay at this property twice a quarter while travelling on business. This time I brought my family with me to experience the location, but most of all, the outstanding service. Portola has never disappointed me with their service, each and every time. This is what keeps me coming back. Thank you again for a wonderful trip with my family.

Whether it's historic downtown Monterey, Fishermans Wharf, even Cannery Row. It's all within walking distance. The Good: Clean rooms (cleanest room I've ever stayed in) Location, location, location. Friendly Staff "Sobel Westex" bed linens. I'm so buying them. Sobelathome.com The Eh: $19 daily parking. Come on now. Can be a little noisy in that you hear toliets flush, guest walking... More

Amazing accommodations, and great beds and bedding!!! A MUST for me. Its Centrally located, walk to the wharf or downtown. Also on Thursdays they have a great Farmers Market that goes from the street right outside the hotel to the end of the main street. Its a beautiful hotel with a large atrium when you walk in...oh and the buffett... More

Our stay at The Portola Hotel consisted of 5 days. We had no idea what it would be like and were disappointed in a few aspects. The first room we were given required going outside to get to the entrance of the wing where our room was located. Strange and not something we cared to do every time we had... More

Most features of this hotel were excellent. However, the parking fee is significant and there is a fee for wifi in the room. The wifi is free if you sit in the lower lobby. I found this very annoying since 2 or 3 star hotels provide free wifi in the room. The room, bed, and service is excellent. We had... More

I spent 4 nights here and overall it was a good experience. I would give it 3 1/2 stars if that were an option. A great location near the Fisherman's Wharf, large lobby, meeting rooms, decent fitness center and a spa (I didn't use the spa), friendly staff, very reasonably priced. I had a standard king room, good sized and... More

Perfect location if attending a convention at the Monterey Convention Center (attached to it). Nice close walk along the pier and close to scheduling whale watching trips if you have time. Not too far a walk even to the historic area, cannery row, etc. Rooms are spacious and nicely appointed (all of the amenities one would typically expect plus a... More
