We just returned from a three day visit to Monterey, CA. We are a budget conscious family of four and wanted to spend our money on activities and great food instead of over-priced accommodations. We stayed here for 1 night with our 2 children. This hostel deserves a medal!. The check in guy was friendly and so helpful. We booked a family room which was spacious and close to the bathrooms (which were very clean). The hostel was nice and quiet too. The complimentary pancake breakfast was great. The HI in Monterey was great for a couple of nights so that we could check out the city and surrounding area. We were going to stay in a local hotel but due to a biking rally everywhere was booked up so we tried the hostel. The people there were friendly, we were in an all girls dorm, although mixed... more

We stayed at the Monterey Hostelling International Hostel for three nights as there is so much to see and do. The price is great, the cozy and welcoming atmosphere is wonderful, we saved money by cooking our own food, very helpful staff in giving us ideas of what to see and do! We couldn't have asked for a better experience!... more
