Just returned from a weekend at The Merritt House in Monterey with a group who had different rooms. Our friends had a fabulous room that opened to a beautiful, lush courtyard with outdoor seating. They loved it! Our room, however, overlooked an SUV parked right in front of our door. It was like a dark cave lit by only the... more

Don't bother with this place. Whilst it served its purpose as a base this inn is nothing to write home about. The room was massive and clean but the staff were rude and completely unhelpful. I would not stay here again. If you are considering staying in this part of California try and stay near Carmel or even cannery row... more

We stayed in a room with a king bed for $220/night including taxes and parking. The property is very nice, as is the location. It is walking distance to downtown. However, the regular non-suite rooms look nothing like the pictures on the website. Our room was not very nice. Clean, just not quite what I expected for the price. Walls... more

We met family in Monterey to run the Big Sur Marathon at the end of April of this year. I will admit that I was a little nervous when my sister told me she had found a Bed and Breakfast type accomodation for us. We were pleasantly surprised with the Merritt House. Unlike the usual cramped hotel room, our room... more

I read all the reviews prior to booking at this hotel and I was not disappointed. Here is the deal, there are only 3 suites in the Historice Adobe building, if you want to stay in one of those you will have to specify that when reserving your room. The rest of the 20 or so rooms are hotel style... more

We booked this inn directly, and received a good rate. We had two rooms side by side. The inn keeper was very helpful in accomodating our party. This inn is in a fantastic location. It is in the heart of downtown, 1 block close to the convention center, but very quiet at night. The rooms are very nicely appointed with... more

went to montery on a last minute road trip, expecting to stay at a hotel near the cannery, but found that the hotels were all very expensive, or very dumpy. we headed downtown and found the merritt house and loved it! we had a king size bed with goose down comfortor. the sink and vanity area looked like it had... more

We went for a convention and decided to stay one extra day since the room was so beautiful and we hadnt really gotten a chance to enjoy it. It was wonderful, Like having a second honeymoon. The rooms are so cozy and beautifully... more

I loved the Merritt House. I regret we had only 1 night to spend here and in Monterey. The garden is lovely- peaceful and full of surpises. The room was beautifully appointed and very clean. The continental breakfast was perfect for us- not too heavy and it included a good selection. The location affords easy access to both the historic... more

I stayed in this hotel for a conference for two nights. The hotel is misleading from its website - as it looks quaint, but when we arrived, it really looked like the majority of the rooms were in a motel 6 like setting next to the victorian house they show on their website. The bathroom was very old - the... more
