We recently stayed at the Merritt House Inn. We were so happy we stayed there. The Staff was so helpful and nice. The rooms were clean and the Inn was close to shopping, eating and sight seeing. The gardens were beautiful and just an overall great stay. We will definately be back and really soon! more

On our way to San Francisco, we needed a place to stay for one night only and arrived in Monterey at around 6:30 p.m. The large hotel nearby had a $200+ rate so we went across the street to the Merritt House Inn. We were offered a 99$ room (probably because we were late in the day). The price was... more

We stayed there while attending a convention at the conventiion center accross the street. The other hotels we full and we we refered here. It was right accross the street from the convention center and walking distants to Fisherman's wharf. The rooms were very nice. Particularly the beds. The matress was so comfortable I wondered what kind it was so... more

My wife really enjoyed the gardens and decor of this restored property. The location was a block from the Downtown conference center, a world away in terms of peace and quite. Fran, who manages the morning breakfast and serves the front desk during the day, was kind and caring. GREAT value for what you get, a clean, unique hotel located... more

What a dump! This place advertizes itself as a historical monument - that's an amazing twist to the truth. There's one old landmark house that's not even attached to most of the "regular" rooms, but that's the one they show on the website. The regular rooms are from the 70's. They're dark. The decor is spare and outdated. They advertise... more

The Merritt House advertises itself with a photo of an old, charming house in Monterey. The actual rooms are these tacky 70's boxes that, in our case look onto a parking lot. The charming house was somewhat visible from the back. They did have a nice fireplace but on the first night when I asked for a second Presto-Log, the... more

After researching hotels online that were in Old Monterey, I found that there are few hotels within the town itself. They were the Marriott, Portola Hotel, and the Coltonn Inn. It was a very busy weekend when I was booking, but all had vacancies. I had already stayed at the Portola and Marriott, and while they are okay, they weren't... more

Stayed here for a long weekend/girls getaway. The staff was friendly and the room was clean. The parking is tight - very tight - to get in and out of. We had a room that overlooked the garden courtyard (2nd floor). I thought we might have a lot of noise due to the street, but when the door was closed,... more

Just returned from a weekend at The Merritt House in Monterey with a group who had different rooms. Our friends had a fabulous room that opened to a beautiful, lush courtyard with outdoor seating. They loved it! Our room, however, overlooked an SUV parked right in front of our door. It was like a dark cave lit by only the... more

Don't bother with this place. Whilst it served its purpose as a base this inn is nothing to write home about. The room was massive and clean but the staff were rude and completely unhelpful. I would not stay here again. If you are considering staying in this part of California try and stay near Carmel or even cannery row... more
