The bedrooms were clean and there were private bathrooms which were also relatively clean. The location was good for a quick drive to Yosemite national park, and they provided maps and routes for guests to follow if visiting the park. There was plenty of parking and an unloading area at reception. There were nice outdoor areas to sit e.g. picnic... More

I stayed in a mixed dorm, but for 2 of the 3 nights I was the only person there, which was a nice bonus. The room was clean, the wifi worked, the en suite bathroom was nice. (I did look in the community bathroom/laundry room and was unimpressed - glad I didn't opt for a room without a bathroom). The... More

This was my second stay at the Bug female dorm, but the last time was a few years ago. The atmosphere at the Bug is sort of like summer camp. The beds themselves were comfortable, but the pillows were kind of weak. Blankets were adequate for the cool nights, and there were extras around the room. The female dorm consisted... More

I stayed at the Bug Hostel during my recent visit to Yosemite National Park (before the fires). The hostel is a bit far from the park entrance, you'll need to take the YARTS bus to get there (so be mindful if its schedule!). The hostel is quite convenient considering the accommodation inside Yosemite is so expensive and hard to get... More

We stayed in a rented house in Midpines so we went to The Bug for breakfast. It had a very rustic lodge feel and we felt comfortable immediately. To eat, you went up and ordered at the counter (menu on a board on the wall) and then they brought the food to you. It was serve yourself coffee and water.... More

I booked a cabin room (shared bathroom) for 2 nights on a US road trip. I wanted to keep things cheap, but must admit to avoiding the tent cabins due to reviews and not being too much much of a lover of camping! The room was clean and comfortable. Yes, it is basic, but they don't claim otherwise! We made... More

We decided on a very last minute trip to Yosemite and needed a place to stay for one night. There were four adults and the only place available was the Starlight Barn Studio. It has one double bed and a bunk bed which wasn't ideal but it was only a short stay and all we could find at such short... More

We missed the boat when booking accommodation in Yosemite itself, and found that everything had gone by the time we wanted to book ( a few months in advance). Yosemite bug hostel seemed to fit the bill as a good alternative. Generally speaking this was a decent choice. We stayed in one of the tent cabins which are reasonably-priced, and... More

We returned here after 15 years of fond memories. Not much had changed other than it has expanded. It is a little too rustic for my tastes. The room was clean and comfortable. Parking was difficult if you get there late. Food was good but expensive. It was a longer than drive to yosemite valley than I remember. If we... More

Stayed in one of their canvas tents. Brought own sleeping bags which was lucky as it was cold, but this was to be expected really. Good price for the location which is beautiful and not many other options available. Bus to the national park stops just 2 minutes away. There was a small town nearby but as we were without... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Yosemite Bug is a rustic mountain resort 25 miles from Yosemite Valley. Located on a forested 20-acre hillside complex, the Bug is relaxed and sociable but well run. In addition to the hostel kitchen, the lodge sports a restaurant that has a great reputation locally for value. Our desk staff are well versed about activities and hikes in Yosemite Valley, Sequoia Groves and Tuolumne Meadows. The Merced Wild and Scenic Area is 3 miles away and features white-water in spring and great summer swimming. Near the hostel itself is a large spring swimming hole and Mariposa Gold Town, 10 miles back. ... more   less
