My husband and I went to Harbin on a long weekend as a treat and stress relief mini-vacation the week after he finished his Master's degree. We were hoping for an oasis from the urban life of the Bay Area, for a real "get-away." And it was, in some respects. But there were also multiple arenas in which Harbin was... more

So on a exhausted and desperate whim, I sought out affordable health and nature spas and found myself flying into sacramento and taking an 2 hr drive to Harbin. I was flying solo, in desperate need of some R&R and a bit intrigued by the whole concept of Harbin...I'm not a hippie nor very new-aged but I do appreciate nature,... more

The pools are great, but clothing is hardly "optional". My experience in choosing to exercise the option of a (tiny) bikini was met with unwelcome comments from other guests. I was judged and chastised by the other guests because I chose to wear my bikini. I was startled at how fat and unfit so many of the guests were. I... more

I took my girl here for her birthday last April. I had searched the web for the best natural springs and Harbin seemed to be the best choice. When they say 'clothing optional' they really mean it's not an option. you should be naked to the bone or you will get rude looks and receive a sleazy comment as was... more

Ahhhh, Harbin, how I miss you. What a wonderful, dear place to spend a week soaking in healing waters, gazing at the beautiful rolling green hills, having delicious body work, reveling in community, sharing good vegetarian food, and drifting with the soulful energy of the place. There are still just enough hippies, counterculture types, folks from Eselen, spiritual seekers, and... more

I have visited Harbin Hot Springs sporadically for the past 20 years. In 2007 I visited Harbin three times under three very different conditions. They were: * Hottest day of the year – too hot to walk on the pavement. Great day! * A pretty warm day but on a three day holiday weekend – try to avoid the three... more

So often you hear the word unique but this place lives up to the billing. A real getaway were mindless chit chat is unheard and silence prevails, no run around uncontrolled children (kids are allowed but required to be quite and still) This place is much more than a soak and a room, long hikes are possible and that is... more

The atmosphere--laid back is an understatement. Besides all the good experiences others mentioned, there are many more. Take time to look at the clothing sold by vendors in the warm months; we especially love the colorful silks. The vendors and residents have interesting life stories and they are often willing to talk with visitors. The "unconditional dance" every week is... more

I took an extra two days during a business trip to drive up and stay at Harbin Hot Springs. This is a great adventure if you are kind of a counter-culture person. If you are looking for a multi-star corporate resort and spa, you will find this quite different, and might not like it. The building I stayed in was... more

Harbin in incredibly tranquil on weekdays and evenings. Saturdays and Sundays can be busy, especially in the summer. It is probably 75% straight couples and singles, 15% gay men, and 10% lesbians. There is complete harmony. The food is gourmet and outstanding, especially at the poolside restaurant at lunchtime. There are many options for lodging, ranging from about $35 to... more
