What a lovely place to stay - well-maintained, clean, friendly staff, wonderful gardens and views, animals, and close to great restaurants and outdoor activities. The breakfast (included), though vegetarian, was delicious as were the snacks. We went for the weekend with friends and will return soon. The innkeepers even sent us a thank you note after we got home! more

We stayed at Stanford for our honeymoon and loved the inn so much that we extended our trip by another day just to take in the natural beauty of the coast and the inn itself. We loved the little treats in the room, the wood-burning fireplace, the gardens, the sauna, and the inn's proximity to the town of Mendocino itself.... more

I was given a weekend stay as a gift. When I went to make the reservation, I spoke with two different women (one of whom I believe was one of the owners) and they were exceptionally rude to the point where I almost considered saying to hell with it and not going (they couldn't find the gift certificate in their... more

Neither of us had been to Mendocino before and we were struck by the warmth and hospitality at the Stanford Inn. Truly a unique place--I loved the tropical plants in the greenhouse/pool area. It was an anniversary getaway and we could only afford one night--but we found chocolates and an anniversary card waiting for us in our room! I loved... more

This was our first stay at the Stanford Inn and we will definetely be returning. We chose a garden view room in the Big River building and were delighted with the private deck overlooking the lush gardens, the horses and the ocean. I appreciated the quiet and relaxing atmosphere of the inn. If you are an animal lover, this is... more

For me, I cannot imagine a trip up to beautiful Mendocino without thinking of the Stanford Inn by the Sea. For each of the times I have stayed there, immediately upon arrival I feel completely relaxed and at ease. Maybe it's the smell of lavender from the garden, or the sounds of the llamas and horses grazing along the footpath.... more

Friends booked a suite in the "Barn" for my birthday. The suite was huge, with two sofa beds, a king size bed , fireplace and kitchenette. There was a little yard area for the dogs as well. Aside from a hideous ceramic cat staring down at us from the kitchen cabinets, the room was fine if not a bit uneven... more

This was our first stay at Stanford Inn by the Sea, although I had eaten in the restaurant previously. The inn is located just across Big River from the town of Mendocino - not really walkable to town or the ocean without a balancing act on a bridge with no sidewalk - but just a 3-5 minute drive to both.... more

I stayed at the Stanford Inn recently with a friend of mine. We had a great room with two absolutely heavenly beds! We had our own private deck, overlooking the amazing gardens, animal pastures, and further to the beautiful Pacific. Though it was cold outside(december), we had a great wood burning stove in our room to keep it cozy ,... more

This was my first time visiting Mendocino, and what an experience it was! I was warmly greeted by Joan, one of the inn owners, and was privileged to be taken on a personal tour of the property, including the lovely herb gardens and animal areas. My room had a breathtaking view of the Pacific Coast from its balcony! The bed... more
