I have been to Montana de Oro State park dozens of time. My kids enjoy the beach that is mostly comprised of small rocks and shells. I had gone there as a child, now as a 30 something with kids I enjoy it all the better. The trails are wonderful, and if you do head out take a camera. The coves that are formed by the ocean waves are breathtaking. I do suggest staying on the trails as the rocks are a bit slick at times. The only downside is the occasional fog that rolls into the entire central coast area. So take a jacket and enjoy the scenery. more

Miles of great hiking and mountain biking trails. The bathrooms do not flush however they are actuall buildings and have no foul smell. Durring the off season the rate is 12$ per night if I remember correctly. Racoons can be a problem so be sure to store food properley-Most sites have boxes with doors built into the end of the tables. Beware though, the racoons are the only animal other than humans with an opposed thumb-making them able to do... more
