The hotel was pretty old with narrow and dark corridors. The room was clean but wasnt at the level of a 4 star hotel. The iron was damage and we had to ask for another one. The iron board was old and dirty. There was no soap in the bathroom and wasn't enough towels neither. The TV was installed on... More

This is my favourite hotel in LA. It's chic, stylish, and decidedly mid-century modern without trying too hard. Unlike other 5-star chain hotels, I find the service here very personal and the staff are relaxed, approachable and professional. Apart from the rooms, the highlight of the hotel is truly the rooftop. That sprawling pool surrounded by the Los Angeles skyline... More

Funky, fun, and modern - the Standard is a great place to stay. Everything from the rooms, to the service (front desk, room service) of the staff and the amazing rooftop bar were impeccable. I stayed here on business and choose this hotel based on the location/availability to my company's office downtown and was pleasantly surprised as this is far... More

I like the Standard... I've come here to eat during the day, party at night, and have gotten a room here as well. It's a trendy remodeled hotel and rooftop bar in the middle of Downtown LA, surrounded by buildings, giving you the feeling of being in a big city like New York or Chicago. Rooftop bar: The Standard rooftop... More

My husband and I made plans to attend an event at L.A. Live. All of the hotels were booked, but The Standard had rooms available. We made our reservation not knowing anything about the hotel. We were pleasantly surprised when we checked in. The first person that we were greeted by was the valet. The valet was welcoming, and took... More

My room was amazing. I loved it and definitely would come back. The hotel has a swimming pool and night parties around it. I traveled around America by buses so I can say that hotel is not far from a Greyhound station. The only minus I noticed as a backpacker they dont have their own laundry. But it is not... More

This is a tired hotel, which is retro in its atmosphere and also its execution. The carpet and decor is past its prime, and the halls are a tad musty. It is also quite noisy, both from external sounds and through the hotel walls. Unfortunately, the quirkiness also seems to detract from its functionality. For example, the bed is on... More

We read the reviews up online regarding this hotel in LA. Since this was our first visit to LA and the hotel was recommended by the Saleen group we booked it. The shower is interesting being all glass, disappointed the rooftop pool was under construction but we went up and took some great photos from the roof, the mattress on... More

The Standard has a great downtown location. It is a very quirky hotel. The rooms can be very small and the walls are very thin. It is not a luxury hotel but rather a boutique mid-century modern style on a larger scale. A lot of people stay here and the facilities show the wear and tear that comes with that.... More

We had booked into the hotel for 5 nights. If you are middle aged or older this place could be a nightmare: The mattress was on a low plinth that stuck out the side of the mattress by 3 feet at the side and 1 foot at the end of the bed. Thus, it is a) difficult to get up... More

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.
