I was in LA for a business meeting and thus needed to stay in downtown. I made a reservation on The Standard's website. When I arrived the front desk didn't have my reservation. After showing him my confirmation print-out, the front desk manager apologized immediately, asked me what the rate was that I booked, reduced it by 10% and upgraded... more

Quirky and whimsicle would be two words that come to mind about this place, others would be hip, slick and cool. The lobby is very cool, the roof top bar and pool area is cool, the room with the shower that has glass walls looking into the rest of the room is cool. This hotel chain is built to be... more

Where do I start? The whole floor smelled of mildew and humidity. The room doesn't even have so much as a coffee maker. But mostly because of the roof top bar, you will have music thumping through the walls until 2am. If you manage to sleep through it, you will certainly be awakened by your neighbor playing music or simply... more

I chose the Standard to celebrate my 30th birthday with my husband and a few friends. From the time we entered the doors, the service was very poor. Check in time was 3pm and we arrived at 4:30 pm to find that our room still wasn't ready. We were told it would be ready within the hour and they would... more

This hotel was a complete disappointment. The interiors were dark and had an unclean feel to them. The room was cheaply furnished in plastic furniture. The attitude in general of the hotel staff to guests was unhelpful to the point of being rude. You felt as if you were somehow imposing upon their time. I have stayed at many hotels... more

When i told my friends (who are from LA) that I was staying at The Standard Hotel Downtown LA for a week, they wondered why on earth I would stay down town and not in, let's say, Hollywood... according to them, downtown isn't save at all. I have to say, I've never felt so save in a hotel as I... more

As a wannabe-boutique, this hotel is so overpriced. The walls, carpeting and bathrooms have a dirty quality to them and hallways and rooms smell like stale smoke. Cheap tile and sliding doors without guides complete the college dorm like bathroom. (And quite frankly, i think your average dorm hall bathroom is nicer). Add in the glass shower with no privacy... more

There is nothing “standard” about this hotel except for the price they try to charge as a wannabe-boutique. If you’re traveler accustomed to a certain level of service, comfort, and cleanliness in a hotel, the Standard is not for you. The hotel itself is a renovated OLD office building in downtown LA. The walls, carpeting and bathrooms have a dirty... more

The Standard wants you to talk about it. It wants you to talk about the platform beds, the pencils that say "poke me" and "shave me" - right down to its upside down sign. In its effort to be hip, The Standard is fuctionally simple. The rooms are everything but standard - the walls are white, and maybe the stripes... more
