The Los Angeles Athletic Club is an odd duck as a hotel, which might be why there are so few reviews on Tripadvisor. Most of its 12 story Downtown LA building is taken up with seem to (non-athlete) me to be topflight athletic facilities. Stayed 06/08; friendly greeting; large room - clean although the building is a bit old (ie. rug). PROS: 1. Inside basketball court 2. Inside track and pools 3. Enjoyed my stay at the L.A. Athletic Club . The room was more than adequate: terry robes, refrigerator, nice bathroom with shampoos, razor etc. The building itself is grand ! I attended a conference at this hotel, and was fore-warned not to book a room. I'm glad I did not. The area is loaded w/aggressive pan-hanlers and street-sleepers (my sympathies, but not a great vac experience). The desk had to call a cab each time, and warned me not to wait outside the door. I stay at the LAAC once a month and I love it. I especially appreciate the workout facilities. The buffet breakfast is wonderful and the staff treat you well. The robes and fruit baskets in your room are a welcome addition. I highly recommend staying here to my coworkers and friends. more
