I booked over the phone over a month ago for 2 people, only to arrive at the hostel to find out they had booked the wrong month. The staff were useless and would not give us any help, only telling us to try another hostel as they were full up. This was their mistake as I had told them the... More

I had a great time here. The location is perfect if you want to head to the beach or surf all day. I met some cool people in the hostel. Activities that the hostel ran were a plus if you were on your own and breakfast is free every morning as well. Wifi was crap, but hey, it’s not a... More

I stayed at the samesun venice for 5 nights in a 4 bed dorm and absolutely loved it. The hostel itself is clean and inviting with lovely staff who will answer any questions. The breakfast is fantastic including pancakes, toast, coffee and fruit. But it's the location that really makes this hostel great. It is directly in venice beach (you... More

I first stayed in a 8 person mixed dorm. Room was clean. But not very social. No one spoke to each other. No bathroom in this room. On the one floor there was 2 bathrooms. Thats it!!! ONLY 2! There would be at least 10 rooms - potentially with 8 people in each. and there are only 2 bathrooms! That... More

I had to extend my stay because it was so good. Nice activities for backpackers to meet other backpackers. The staff was very helpfull with everything from transportation, eating places, where and what to see.

I came to Samesun as it was recommended by STA. As soon as you walk in it smells. The staff are nonchalant and you feel like your invading their house. I was taken to a tight and dark dorm packed to the rafters with bunk beds which was gloomy. The shared bathroom with the entire floor is short on basic... More

I spent one night at this hostel and I was quite impressed. My lonely planet said not to expect much in the way of customer service, but I actually had a really positive experience. I was originally supposed to spend two nights, but my flight was cancelled and I came the next day. Even though I didn't give 24 hours... More

Hostel stank like spew. Was charged a lot more than the "hostelbookers" booking quote and it was an absolute dump (on par with the worst hostels in india). Had to pay extra for towel but shower too filthy to use. Bed uncomfortable. Cannot discourage you enough from staying here. I would have rather slept in bus station.

I chose this hostel because of the location. I had only 14 h between my flights but didn't really want to spend the time at LAX. In that sense, this was a good choice. Only some 20 mins journey from the airport, the place is located right at Venice beach. This was my first US hostel experience, so I cannot... More

We stayed here for one night before our flight onwards. It's close to the airport, close to shopping and right on the Venice beach Boardwalk. The staff were friendly and helpful, the location is amazing and there's a lot going on the In the area. You can walk to Santa Monica from the hostel aswell, wish I could have stayed... More

Staying in Venice

Neighborhood Profile
Venice
Venice has always danced to its own beat as the epicenter of bohemian culture in Los Angeles. Along the boardwalk there are street performers and local craftsmen selling their wares. Original paintings, souvenirs, and jewelry are on display. Crowds of visitors marvel at the sites while weightlifting enthusiasts pump iron in plain view, and skateboarders do their tricks around the skate park. All of it happens under the warm California sun with sprawling views of sand and sea. Heading east, the main drags of Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Main Street are lined with boutique shops, some major retail stores, art galleries and restaurants. Here the ambiance is more relaxed and upscale than the frenetic boardwalk area. Venice is a mostly walkable (and certainly bikeable) neighborhood, full of areas to explore.
