We stayed here for one night before our flight onwards. It's close to the airport, close to shopping and right on the Venice beach Boardwalk. The staff were friendly and helpful, the location is amazing and there's a lot going on the In the area. You can walk to Santa Monica from the hostel aswell, wish I could have stayed... More

As a group we stayed at the Samesun Hostel in Venice Beach whilst we visited LA for the weekend. We had previously been on a geography field trip to the Desert for two weeks and needed somewhere cheap and close to local attractions. The Samesun is right in the middle of Venice and a couple of steps from the seafront,... More

The smell and the lack of air at this hostel was horrid in the day, and almost unbearable at night. I have stayed at Hostels all over the world, and this private room was the worst I have stayed in. There was no air, it wasn't even hot outside at night but we could hardly breathe. The window looked out... More

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with you feedback. Currently we are upgrading the hostel, starting with the private rooms. They are getting a fresh coat of paint, some new colours, headboards, lighting, air ventilation and wall decorations. I am sorry that you came just before the changes and needed tlc. Cheers and safe travels, Sara General... More

... You won't need it. I stayed at the hostel for 3 nights in a 4-bed all female dorm. The heat in the room was unbearable, and I really did not sleep well because of it. There was a fan in the room, but it did little. It was Hell trying to apply makeup to my sweaty face! So the... More

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. Due to the building's 'heritage status' the hostel cannot have AC units in the rooms. We do have fans in each one. If an additional fan is needed please don't hesitate to ask the front desk if there are extra fans. They will be more than happy to... More

Fantastic location, seconds away from Venice beach. Friendly hostel run by a group of young guys and girls who sit at reception for 24 hours a day as far as I could tell. Always a party atmosphere and although the hostel itself was slightly small and not exactly cosy, you shouldn't expect that if you'd read the description. Just make... More

I stayed there without real expectations, but that was a great surprise! Nice staff, nice people staying there, right next to the beach... what more can you ask? I will definitely go back for a longer stay.

The location was great. Our 4 bunk beds room had a view of Venice Beach. The room itself was cosy and the bathroom was spacious. We were just a few bus stops away from Santa Monica. For a hostel the cleanliness was very good.

Best place to stay for people travelling on a budget. Breakfast is decent. Beach is walking distance. Club is across the street. Free street parking always available. Nothing luxurious or extravagant.

First up, the location is fantastic. Ten steps out of the door and you're on the beach. Beware of the million hobos outside who yell and spit and beg. Inside the hostel it's clean enough, and the punky girls that work in there are cool as, but the fella with the long hair and beanie who does the night shift... More

Thank you for taking time to provide us with your feedback. The hostel's location is pretty spectacular - you couldn't get closer to the beach if you tried. Venice is a very unique community, that often comes with some choice characters, some who yell, but not really directed to anyone. It is also for this reason that we take security... More

As my first ever hostel stay I was a little disappointed. For the price you pay you didn't really get much. The breakfast was minimal, the place was very dirty and the rooms were stinking hot. I had to leave at 7am for a flight and I couldn't access the kitchen to eat something I had brought. Certainly would have... More

Staying in Venice

Neighborhood Profile
Venice
Venice has always danced to its own beat as the epicenter of bohemian culture in Los Angeles. Along the boardwalk there are street performers and local craftsmen selling their wares. Original paintings, souvenirs, and jewelry are on display. Crowds of visitors marvel at the sites while weightlifting enthusiasts pump iron in plain view, and skateboarders do their tricks around the skate park. All of it happens under the warm California sun with sprawling views of sand and sea. Heading east, the main drags of Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Main Street are lined with boutique shops, some major retail stores, art galleries and restaurants. Here the ambiance is more relaxed and upscale than the frenetic boardwalk area. Venice is a mostly walkable (and certainly bikeable) neighborhood, full of areas to explore.
