We arrived post cruise and were not disappointed. The only problem we had were directions from San Pedro to the hotel. I called the hotel about 6 times, and each time was given different directions and was passed from person to person. The reception on our TV was a little fuzzy, so we were given a room upgrade (engineer was gone home for the night). Which was really nice. Hotel staff was young, nice and energetic. I stayed two night at the Avia over the President's Day/Valentines Day weekend. The hotel was booked solid, but I never felt like it was crowded. My wife and I stayed here after a cruise in February 2010, after staying at a different Long Beach hotel pre-cruise. The Avia was only $10 more but was *so* much better in size and location. Stayed here for a friend's wedding at the Hyatt Long Beach. But, when I went to book the hotel, there were no rooms available. I found the Avia as an alternative and we very surprised by our experience. The pre-paid rate per night during our stay was only 119 dollars, so I didn't expect the hotel to be any better... more
