First time traveling to Long Beach (on business) and wanted a boutique hotel. Traveling on a government budget, the Varden Hotel fit within the federal rate and could not have been a better choice. A perfectly charming 35 room European-style boutique hotel - a clean, well-lit stylish place with a top drawer staff. A historic sign advertising the Dolly Varden... More

We stayed here for one night to attend a wedding. Check-in was fairly smooth. We were "upgraded" to the 3rd floor, but the only difference seemed to be that there was more light coming into the room, our room still faced the wall of another building. There is no elevator so we had to climb a few flights of stairs,... More

The location of this hotel is unique insofar that it is not surrounded by other hotels/restaurants. Located on the perimeter of the "heart" of The Downtown area, the hotel is blocks away from other restaurants, shopping, etc. It has a parking lot for those who drive. For those who use public transit, you're one block from the Blue Line, a... More

When looking for a hotel for two nights in Long Beach, I saw that the Varden was the highest rated hotel (in TripAdvisor). So I read the reviews. And then decided to "take a chance" that the reviewers were right in what they were saying. Indeed they were. The staff is extremely well trained which shows in all that they... More

My husband and I went to Long Beach for a wedding over Labor Day weekend. After reading the great reviews, and the price being right at $119 per night, we decided to stay at the Varden. The Pros: - Amazing staff, the front desk was manned for 24 hours, they were super helpful, offered help with bags, and complimentary water... More

We stayed here for a few nights and what a great little hotel it is. The rooms are fairly compact but everything you need is in there. Everything is so clean and white. The staff cannot do enough for you - from suggestions for the local area to printing off boarding passes etc. The hotel is in a good location... More

I was only here for one night before a cruise and it could not have been better. The room was small, but clean and the staff could not have been more accommodating. It is very close to attractions, bars, restaurants and shopping. I would recommend it and would stay here again. For being small, they provide a very good selection... More

Yes, the overhaul of this old building is pretty, but that is where the similarities of this boutique hotel and its European counterparts ends. The interior design of the rooms would have been better served by emulating IKEA showroom bedrooms. The rooms have a Spartan feel, lack of personality, hooks, shelving and counterspace. You'd get more charm out of a... More

A couple of friends and I wanted to attend a classic auto auction in Anaheim but were flying into LAX and did not want to stay in Anaheim. Some asking around showed that Long Beach was a great intermediate geography to stay and in looking around Long Beach (LB), we thought we would avoid the big chain hotels. The Varden... More

Great little hotel with lots of charm. All the staff were pleasant , attentive and exuded exemplary customer service. The rooms were quaint and unique. The location was close to the harbor and lots of great resturants.
