Last week was my fifth stay (in as many years) at the El Mono Motel, and I adore the place. Yes, the rooms are small (but not upstairs), and yes, guests have to share bathrooms, which rather than being a nuisance, reminds me of my favorite lodging experiences in Europe. If you want a "Best Western Motel" experience, avoid the... More

Pros: clean, bedding was nice Cons: lack of space in room, no a/c or fan (only front room had a fan), only 2 useable outlets, a desk but no chair, door to jack & Jill bath dragged on carpet loudly which would wake other occupant, sink in one bedroom only (rather than in the bathroom) so would wake occupant, no... Wife and I stayed here the night before doing a backpacking trip in the Yosemite High Country so we didn't have to drive the hour+ from the valley. Room is small but the bed was pretty comfortable. A sink is in the room, but it would have been nice to have a sink in the shared bathrooms so you could... More

Very neat place. Room is small but clean. The bed was comfortable. Back yard is beautiful. They provide free books to kill time. Do not miss the breakfast. I really enjoy the Blue sandwich. Only thing is the shared bathrooms were very small.

I just read one of the reviews criticizing the lack of AC. We stayed here the 2nd weekend in July and indeed it was hot. However, this was an unusual heat wave. I even lived in Lee Vining for awhile, and most of the time, AC is not needed. Obviously, the lack of it, and phones and TV, contribute greatly... More

An old-fashion motel and coffee shop with long open hours, a short but fun breakfast menu, views over Mono Lake, garden sitting spots to enjoy the coffee/food, a nice clientele, and a positive staff. The rooms are clean and good value. Highly recommended.

This hotel was perfect after a long trip through Yosemite Park. We arrived very late (almost 11 PM) and as promised had our key taped to the front door. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. I loved the nice thick bedspread and friendly look of the room. In the morning we ordered a (very) good cup of... More

It's our fault. We procrastinated in booking a place to stay while visiting the Mono Lake/Yosemite area in the summer! And this was the only motel we could find with room available. When we pulled in, I wondered why the guests were all out on the porch. I soon found out: the rooms do not have A/C and it was... More

We didn't have a place to stay near Mono Lake and picked El Mono in Lee Vining. It didn't disappoint, it was small but very clean, quiet and friendly. They don't have TV or air conditioning but it really didn't seem to matter. The coffee shop makes great coffee for first thing in the morning plus a good selection of... More

After several days camping in the dusty wilderness of Masonic, I was thankful just to get a room at this reasonably-priced motel during 4th of July weekend. So when my family arrived to a lovely garden, cozy cafe, delicious pastries (including several gluten-free ones!) and friendly folks, we felt like we hit the jackpot. Sure, the rooms are small (we...
