Sure the scenery is beautiful around the ranch but the people are rude and annoying. It is like they have been cut off from civilization for years. The place is way to overpriced and it takes hours to get here from the Florence Lake boat ramp. Once crossing the windy lake you must 4 wheel drive through a slow and... More

This was planned as a Memorial trip for my father and turned into a wonderful relaxing stay. Family got together, bonded and had a wonderful happy time sharing our farewell to a very loved man. We even met a couple that were just hiking through and they turned out to be acquainted with Dad and it was so great to... More

The good: Muir Trail Ranch is in a beautiful setting, the staff is friendly and helpful (although some of the kids are so young that they're a bit flaky really), the hot springs are wonderful, the horses are beautiful. The cabins are very nice, the bed is indeed very comfortable. But... The not so good: for a couple, $300 per... More

We landed here on our 5th night on the JMT, just to pick up our supply bucket. When we learned they had space in their tent cabins, we opted to stay even though it was $140 per person. It was worth every penny. This included a fabulous dinner, made to order breakfast, and make your own take away lunch during... More

We opted to book a short stay @ the ranch as a resupply and respite on our 8 day backpacking trip. We booked only one night on the third night of our trip and although it was an additional 6 miles to the journey,it was worth every extra step! I arrived with three blisters and contusion to my achilles. We... More

We ran to the Muir Trail Ranch from the east side of the Sierra and stayed for two nights. Our accommodation was the "Penthouse Tenthouse", which is pretty basic, but plenty comfortable. We were amazed by the excellent food in such a remote location - lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, really delicious entrees, and super friendly and hard working... More

We stayed there as part of our John Muir Trail hike. We reached MTR after 5 days of hiking on the Trail. We had a tent-cabin reservation and also, had a resupply bucket sent to them. One of our party had stayed here in the past and had highly recommended it; and believe me, it was the right recommendation. The... More

The High Sierras ARE breathtaking; just one large open-air Cathedral; Staying at the MTR was a treat; excellent food...TOO much of it (?!); staff were friendly; family-run and oriented. Proper human beings ! Facilities were fantastic; this IS the middle of nowhere; and yet civilized in a not gawdy sort of way. You could do as much....or as little as... More

As we were hiking with a 3 month old baby and a backpack each up from Florence lake and neared Blaney Meadows, we heard a vehicle. Our first response was, on this terrain? Although there was a road of sorts bearing the imprint of tire tracks - where there weren't boulders, etc., from which the trail meandered from time to... More

This is the most amazing way to drop in on the John Muir Trail without having to walk 200 miles. The three hour hike from Florence Lake is the perfect way to ease yourself up into this wonderful camp. Used mostly to resupply backpackers, the Ranch accommodates visitors in a variety of ways--pack trips, day rides, day hikes (we did... More
