I am truly saddened by the neglect this Lodge has suffered. As a child, my family came here often, in the 50s and 60s. The Lodge is grand with so much potential. Even if the carpeting is torn up in the dining hall and the sinks have rusty spots, that is no excuse for not sweeping off the porch, the... More

Coming from tahoe to sacramento today my son and i decided to stop in to eat.nobody else was dining which alerted me. We Couldn't get what we wanted they were out of it. Waited 45 minutes for our Very greesy and slightly burnt sandwich. While eating my son looked at me and told me there were bugs crawling in the... More

The Sand Fire in El Dorado County forced us to evacuate our business, Lucinda's Country Inn, in Fair Play last Saturday. Our first night we had no choice, no other vacancies anywhere, but to stay here. Yes, we knew of the history, built in the 1850's and bla, bla , bla. The rooms are way too small and the beds,... We went because a friend was getting married in their banquet room and seeing these reviews we thought we would make a minny vacation out of it so we stayed for 4 days. We walked in and there was no one there. I found the owner out on the property and got checked in. We had rented 2 rooms across... More

If I were a rich man...I'd opt for the Ritz Carlton in Truckee when spending an avant-ski night near Tahoe. I'm not rich, though, so we opted for the Strawberry Lodge just a few miles from our chosen ski resort, Sierra at Tahoe. The Ritz it is not, but a charming, cozy and wholly appropriate mountainside lodge it is. We... More

Place was warm rustic and fantastic! Mike and the entire staff was wonderfully accommodating. They had a roaring fire in all of the fireplaces and boardgames in the lounge for people to play with. It felt like I was staying at a homey cabin in the woods. Everyone including the other patrons were very friendly and the food was great!

A friend and I snuck off for a day of climbing at Lovers Leap and this hotel was perfectly located for us. The other reviews are right--it's pretty basic, and the bathroom fixtures were . . . not pretty (enamel chipping off the sink, stuff like that). But there was a bed, hot water, and a bar, which was really... More

Atmosphere, history, relaxation, bar. What more do you want on your official Pony Express stop? The place is over 155 years old and is completely fascinating! If you're looking for a fancy place, this is NOT it.. it's kinda like bunking at a camp. Shared bathroom, sink in the room, no TV... hey, if you like it rustic, here it... More

Really really bad value for money. Very old and basic facilities, that are pretty worn-out and not even clean and tidy. For that level the prices (e.g. really tiny room with double bed with very tiny bathroom for 109$) are ridicolously inappropiate. And the overall experience was bad too, because also many little things contributed to an overall negative impression... More

The reason that we stayed at this hotel is because we had family staying here and had family staying in a cabin down the road. This allowed us to not have to drive down the mountain each day. When we pulled up to the lodge the outside looked just as expected older and rustic. When we walked inside there was... More
