We spent one night in such Ryokan and it was really very very nice. There is a free bus which wait for you at the Railway station. The staff is very kind and helpful. We booked also the "Secrete private onsen", unforgettable!!! The dinner was very good, too. At the end, we can suggest such Ryokan

I booked a really good deal on this hotel and was planning to stay for 1 night until the AM. The great thing about this place was if you stayed overnight you can use the hot spring as much as you want until the wee hours of the morning which was awesome because it was basically all yours for a... To begin with people who tries to book this ryokan: if you are looking for some wild wood, totally non-urban feeling, reasonable price by all mean with respective value, the most authentic out-of-town Japanese Ryokan experience (like the people and the environment surrounding). I'll keep this out of my list. And here are some of my "stereotype" perspective view, Before... More

My husband and I stayed at Sumiya Kiho-an for 2 nights on our honeymoon. It was an easy trip out from Kyoto on the train where we were met by a shuttle bus that took us the extra 15 mins to the hotel. It’s a beautiful train journey through the countryside through a few tree lined valleys. The hotel is... More

Onsen ryokan is something to try during a trip to Japan. This ryokan is far from the city center but their shuttle bus runs regularly between the hotel and train station. Staffs are enthusiastic to the degree that some might feel uncomfortable. Food is the one of the highlights of ryokan.

I have been to many ryokans in Japan and this one left me with a strong and pleasant impression. The most charming part of the ryokan for me was its library. Not only does the library have a substantial collection of books ranging from Japanese literature to English non-fiction books, the library also had a piano, free to be played... More

My partner and I stayed at this onsen ryokan for two nights. We traveled from the Kyoto train station and had the minibus pick us up from the station in Kameoka. The ride is about 20 minutes. It's not as secluded as I imagined, but it makes little difference once you've checked in. We immediately reserved the outdoor private onsen... More

Granted, the ryokan experience isn't for everyone but this place delivers as promised. From the service, to the room, the food and of course, the hot spring bath - they strive to provide a luxurious one of a kind experience. Travellers will have to make use of their shuttle bus service to get around though, so please plan your day... More

Warm and helpful people at Sumiya Kihoan! Truly unforgettable experience! Both breakfast and dinner was awesome--nothing regrettable (I promise), so for anyone visiting SK the first time, please order at least one breakfast and one dinner. We had a private onsen, and totally loved the room and bed. Would come back to explore Kyoto further.

While located one hour from Kyoto, transportation was not issue for issue for us Besides this excellent room, fantastic service, great kaiseki meals that can be served in your room or you can enjoy it in nice restaurant on first floor. We also used both public bath and private onsen, both very great experience. Overall excellent time
