Just left this ryokan rather disappointed. Here is why: - we had a reservation for a non-smoking room and received a room which was clearly a smoking room - judging by the smell and cigarette marks on the carpet. Asked to get another room and were shown one where they had tried (unsuccessfully) to cover the smoke smell with air... More

This seems like something in the middle between a traditional ryokan and an hotel. The building from outside is not so nice, as many others hotels in Hokkaido. But they did a very good job inside to make it traditional and welcoming. The room was also very good, clean, big and with a nice feeling. The bathroom is a old,... More

This was our first onsen stop. The staffs is kind, warm and friendly. They welcome us when we arrived, staffs helped us to park our car nicely. We have private bath room inside our room with bath tub, but we did not use it because we want to have experience in public bath. Although onsen was small, we really enjoyed... More

The moment we stepped in lobby, it was so calm refreshing feel with background water dripping. A jap auntie wore kimono welcomes us. They even offer us to carry our luggages but we were too shy to let seniors carry. Our rooms were so big! Our room overlook the river. Though room & furniture look tired but it was still... More

Oyado Kiyomizu is a quaint, family run hotel with only 42 rooms overlooking a stream away from the congested hotel area. It is an older hotel that maintains its charm using tatami mats in the spacious rooms giving you a choice of sleeping on the floor with futons or sleeping on a bed. The excellent dinner and breakfast meals are... More

As most reviews mentioned, the onsen is nothing to talk about. It's small and you have to take turns between ladies and men 9:30pm switch to be on the outdoor. Room we got the traditional 4 futon room but in fact you can just squeeze 3 in. Dinner was not to my expectation and from the web picture it seems... More

This was our first onsen stop and it left us with mixed feelings. Service was excellent - friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. However the onsen left us a little disappointed. The men's onsen shortly before dinner resembled a post-match locker room. Towels and disposable razors had been abandoned all over the place by the recent occupants. Not particularly... More

This was a wonderfully peaceful hotel without the hustle and bustle of many resort hotels. I was pleased to find that there were a number of English speakers at the Kiyomizu-ya. Those who didn’t speak English were patient enough to understand me. The ryokan has beautiful baths, including one outside. However, what really makes this ryokan a “must visit” is... More

Simple hotel, very good service and food quality is very good. Sashimi is very fresh. Onsen is not much to boast about. Simple and rather old place but the service quality makes up for it. Walking distance from Jigokudani (Hell Valley). Strong sulphur smell permeates the whole area due to the volcano but personally it doesn't bother me at all.

Noboribetsu is famous for their sulphuric onsens so there are a lot of hotels and ryokans to choose from. I decided on this ryokan because i wanted a more traditional ambiance and if you go for the bigger and much grander hotels like Noboribetsu daiichi, you'll end up with a generic western hotel room. That wasn't what i wanted, so... More
