I would not recommend Karuizawa as a destination for overseas travellers, but for those living in Tokyo during the hot and humid summer months, it is a great getaway just 1 hour away. The cooler temperature is immediately noticeable when get off the train, and unlike Tokyo, it cools off further in the evenings. Karuizawa has been a summer treat... More

We stayed one night at this one of those renowned "classic' hotels, after spending one night nearby Manza Hot Spring. Pls see my review of the Fujiya hotel. Not much to add, except Mampei was even worse. Unless you are Japanese, don't go.
