This is one of the best places I've ever stayed in my life. This place is like a small village, that has an atmosphere of both traditional/modern Japan. We got an amazing cottage kind of room, super clean, amazing furniture and awesome views. They provide local beers and drinks in the room and they're all free, also they don't have... More

The Hoshinoya in Karuizawa is our favourite "get away" spot. This was our third visit and, as always, the Hoshinoya did not disappoint. We came by train so we took advantage of Hoshinoya's free shuttle bus service; the shuttle schedule is posted on the Hoshinoya web site. Everything at Hoshinoya is designed for the ultimate in relaxation so we enjoyed... More

An elaborate and extravagant Japanese style hotel. Very good service. Traditional full set Japanese breakfast is nice. Good Onsen with one designated for hotel clients and another bigger one open for the public. Good for honeymoon ! With a big shopping outlet, a variety of restaurants and two Christian churches nearby. All within walking distance or short taxi ride to... More

It is not a typical Japanese Ryokan, but is like an Aman resort style. The room has a higher ceiling, and a floor heating. Quite and comfortable enough. A lot of new ideas and designs everywhere. The food was not as good as the top class Japanese Ryokans, but still we could enjoy and relax there.

This resort was everything we expected and more!! Well worth the price of admission and all in traditional Japanese style. Staff was friendly and extremely helpful in arranging self and guided tours throughout the Karuizawa area. Would love to return one day!!

If you imagine classic style "ryokan", this is not the one. This is a new Japanese style resort to wind you down. Everything there is a little over-priced but considering hospitalities you'll meet there may calm you down. If you take your wife or girl friend (at your expense), they'll be super happy, i bet. Several choices for the rooms... More

This is an astoundingly beautiful, very luxurious ryokan, located on a hot springs in a charming resort town in the foothills of the Japanese Alps, and very conveniently located just a 1-hr ride from Tokyo on the bullet train. The public spaces are architecturally stunning and provide amazing insight into feng shui. The dining area is especially gorgeous, and many... More

The photos and website present this hotel glamorously enough, but in reality, it's a huge disappointment, and no better than any other ryokan choice in the region. Yet it is way more expensive than its neighbors. Pictured as if its surrounded by nature, it is in fact surrounded by other buildings, car parks, roads and such, taking away from the... More

We spend 4 nights. Its expensive but they offer also free coffee, tea and snacks in good quality. A parents and kids paradise. The staff is very child friendly. They are trying all the time to cheer them up. A 24 h kids room is available. You may leave your children there. Nannies take care. The food is very good.... More

Rooms are OK. Room services are great. 4 - 5 stars services but 6 stars costs. We went with 2 kids 9 and 7 years old. They charged them for staying, even using existing beds in one room. The costs for kids can add up to almost the room rate for ONE MORE ROOM. So I end up requested 2... More
