A charming place with atmospehere. Great location on the major pedestrian street in the old town. Rooms are small, but comfortable. Decent wifi. The negative aspects: Laundry is very expensive (5 Rmb for a pair of socks) It takets time before the shower gets hot The cuisine is uneven. Taxis arranger by the hotel are expensive

Came here primarily for the outdoor courtyard seating at the back, though there isn't enough seating and the benches are small and narrow. Inside is much better, lots more spaces, huge menu, great food and good music. Staff attentive and friendly. Good opening hours too, 7am!

A fantastic location in the heart of the city, inside the city walls. Within minutes walking distance to the shops, museums, city walls. The room was warm, underfloor heated, clean-ish (the floors could do with a good scrub) and the bathroom was of a good size, clean and comfortable. This guesthouse is an old fashioned courtyard home - so understand... More

Very reasonably priced. Very clean rooms with an authentic old world feel but modern amenities, including wifi, western toilets, heating and air conditioning. Their restaurant is great good and ranked #3. They rent bikes for RMB 10/day which is a great walls to explore the city. While in town, make sure to have Pingyao beef with cilantro!

The guest house has an ideal location right in the middle of the ancient town / city of Pingyao close to the large tower astride the main street. We were met by Alice who was very helpful and spoke excellent English. The rooms are all set inside a small maze of courtyards - in fact one of the most memorable... More

We stayed here for five nights. We arrived when it was dark which felt very bustling and magical. The guest house is very basic and authentic. We loved the massive beds and the open showers. The food is really good here. It does get busy with tour groups. The staff are hit and miss, some of them just slob around... More

November 2013 was our 3rd stay at this lovely hostel/guesthouse/hotel and we were just as thrilled as on the other previous occasions in 2003 and 2007. The owner/manager, Rainbow, and her staff are marvellous -professional and courteous; the restaurant provides delicious meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) at very reasonable prices and table service is very professional; the restaurant and bar... This hotel is in the centre of the old town so ideally placed for site-seeing. It has an old world charm with its inner courtyards. Don't expect too much from the rooms - they are extremely tiny and rather depressing. The walls are painted black for about a metre and a half from the floor. The bathroom is fully tiled... More

The rooms were lovely, nicely furnished. Check in was fast and all the staff spoke some English. The service can be a bit hit and miss. Some of the girls were helpful and friendly. However, a male member of staff asked us to move tables as an Asian woman wanted to sit in our seat which really annoyed us.

Any trip to Pingyao should include a visit to the Ri Shengchang Money Exchange Museum and a stay at the Tian Yuan Kui Guesthouse. The Tian Yuan Kui Guesthouse, which is in the heart of the old city, was built in 1791. The classic architecture, courtyards, stone lion carvings, Ming & Qing style furniture, red lanterns and fragrant tea by candlelight, all adding to the memorable experience.
