Small hotel in traditional building. Location is OK as old Pingyao is a very small city. Rooms are not big as bed takes most of space we had problem with geting around the suitcases. Tiny bathroom with open shower is also not covinient as everything is wet after one person. Main problem for us was a temperature. It was cold... More

We have loved staying at Cheng Jai courtyard hotel. It has a lovely atmosphere in a traditional setting. It is true, it is not a chain hotel, nor is it a western hotel. It's charm is that it fits its setting, Pingyao old city, perfectly. We loved our traditional room with the bed taking 2/3 of the room with a... More

We stayed here for 3 nights. The staff here were so incredibly friendly and helpful, it felt like a small locally run business and that they valued your custom. We were offered to share tea with them when we arrived, they had umbrellas for us to borrow as unfortunately our visit coincided with three days of torrential rain, when there... More

We had a fantastic time in Pingyao - lots of places of interest, breathtaking town walls and a lovely and cosy family run hotel to top it off. We stayed for 4 nights and totally enjoyed our stay there. It was a great experience staying in a traditional courtyard house and sleeping on an enormous Kang bed with buck wheat... More

We found this hotel to be very charming and peaceful. It is located just within the old city wall, nearly at the end (or beginning) of North street. We really liked this location, as you are in the old city, but not in the very busy part. The staff was very polite, only one of them spoke Chinese but he... More

Stayed for 2 nights here and by far it is the best place we stayed at in our China trip. It is a family that operates the hotel and they are incredibly accommodating and made our experience in Pingyao very memorable. The hostel is kind of hard to find: go through the northern gate (from the train station exit and... More

After arriving at the train station, we decided to walk to the hotel as it was located only about 500 yards and was located NEAR the entrance to the old city. We could not find the hotel... ended up taking a yak. Problem was the hotel is located INSIDE the old city, and near the EXIT of the town. I... More

Lovely, friendly people, looked after us from the free pick up at the train station, to a super late check out while we waited to leave. Perfectly located away from the centre and close to the wall entrance, this is one of few places where you can imagine living in China a hundred years ago, except that is now has... More

We stayed 3 nights at this family-run guesthouse. The location is excellent, tucked away in a quiet hutong but close to the main street and shopping/restaurant areas. It's nice to explore on foot, away from the really touristy streets. The guest rooms all open onto a peaceful and lovely courtyard. It was very quiet while we were there. The rooms... More

We arrived from Beijing by train very (very) early in the morning (5.30 am) and when we called the night before and asked if they could pick us up from the train station it was no problem at all. The transfer was free of charge, as well as the transfer on our way back to the station when we left.... More
