I stay in, and review, a lot of small hotel/B&B type facilities in the U.S. and around the world (mostly Europe) and it's always hard to compare different countries and different cities because the standards in a particular location and the desires of each guest vary greatly, so I try to compare a particular hotel or B&B with other comparable... As Julian's most historic bed and breakfast, the Julian Gold Rush Hotel, circa 1897, offers legendary charm and serenity in this secluded hamlet just an hour of two from most of southern California. When I ponder the word "legendary" as pertaining to a resort or hotel, the thought of being "tired" comes to mind. Not so with this property. It... More

From check in to check out a very enjoyable experience. The Hotel is bigger than you think. It has rooms in the main hotel bldg. and cabins in the back. The décor of all the rooms is DARLING, CLEAN and ATTENTION to DETAIL is overwhelming. The afternoon tea and goodies are fun and the morning breakfast is scrumptious and more... More

Can't beat the location, right on the main street in Julian. We stayed in room 16. First floor facing Main Street. Can sit outside on the front porch and watch the world go by. Room was very small with a small bathroom but very clean and decorated authentically to the 1890s. Great bed, very high and very comfortable. Tea in... More

I stayed on the first floor which opened out to the front, I loved my little room! It was quiet and cozy. I had thought that I would hear the noise from upstairs or out front but I didn't at all. The breakfast was good and the high tea was very welcoming. If I had one complant it was the... More

The Julian Hotel opened in 1987 by a freed souther slave. Today, it is a bed and breakfast. The hotel has great charm and rumored to be haunted. The rooms are small but that is how most hotels from the 1800's were. The beds were comfortable and the room had great charm. We stayed in room 10 the governor's suite.... More

Our decision to stay at the Gold Rush Hotel in Julian was a "no-brainer!" The atmosphere of this adorable, charming, historical bed and breakfast was irresistible to complete our weekend trip back in time to a simpler era. The hotel is located smack dab in the center of town in Julian and parking the car once and walking everywhere was... More

After 35 years of visiting Julian on day trips, we finally stayed at the Julian Gold Rush Hotel. It's a an old historic hotel - and a step back in time (no TVs, but there is air-conditioning). The rooms are pretty small, even the first floor rooms which are supposedly larger. It didn't matter to us, since we spent most... More

We made an unplanned stop in Julian on a weeknight, and were able to take advantage of a special rate for an upstairs room. We had our choice of rooms, and chose a corner unit that seemed to have a little more space around the bed, as well as two windows for some cross ventilation. The rooms are a very... More

My husband & I have been to Julian Gold Rush Hotel twice in the past year & just love it! It has early era charm, quiet, great Julain location & the breakfast is to die for! And, IF that isn't enough the staff is great!
