Tried my hand at surprising my husband for an 'outdoorsy' vacay for our anniversary. The result: I'm now not able to make plans w/o consulting him 1st! HA! Now, let me preface by saying he is not the least bit snooty - his favorite place to stay is the Rodeway Inn....... Good 'Ol Reliable Rodeway Inn! ha! But he was... More

The setting is charming, with wild turkeys and deer in abundance, crisp mountain air and starry nights. the charm ends there. There is a difference between rustic charm and plain shabby and run down! The cabins are one step up from tent camping but the price would have you thinking that you could expect much much more. The catered meal... More

Great place tucked away in the hills outside of Julian, CA. Quiet, comfortable. Nothing frilly or fancy but rather simple and quaint. We celebrated a friends wedding here and it was a perfect setting.

This is a truly miserable place, with only its location to recommend it. The rooms are unkempt, dirty, small and infested with ants, there is no attempt at service, the staff is surly and rude, and overall, there is absolutely nothing to praise here except the view. It's a very disappointing experience, and they don't care at all. They seem... More

Place suxs, male owner flat out rude. Stopped short of saying the "F" word to me. Totally unwarranted. Rooms small and dirty. Son stayed in one of the cabins and I saw spider cobwebs which speak of how run down and unkempt this place is. Camping with a tent and fear would be better. Oh yeah, hold on to your... More

Our extended family recently rented four cabins at Pine Hills Lodge over the Thanksgiving weekend for a two night stay. My husband and teenage son and I stayed at the North Star cabin, the largest cabin available. Access to this cabin was down a treacherous stone path. Upon entering we were quite taken aback as the main bedroom we entered... More

The people there were very nice. That's about it. They were very accommodating for us. I would have given it one star if it weren't for them. The room was dirty. The sink barely worked. The bathrooms (two) were down the hall, and only one had a sink which one would call "working". First thing in the morning (first shower... More

I booked the North Star cabin for our family of four for a wedding we were attending at this place, referred to on their website as having a "resort atmosphere". Maybe if your idea of a resort is based on life in Appalachia, could this be accurate. The lodge is over 100 years old, so I was not expecting a... More

We attended a wedding at the lodge this past weekend. The place looked very shabby. We froze in the hall where the wedding was. Even with the heater on it was so cold. We had a cocktail hour in the pub. The food was ok the drinks strong but way overpriced!. The decor was nice with all the Christmas decorations.... More

Thanksgiving dinner was abysmal. I cannot comment on the cabins, but if they are anything like the food, avoid this place!! It is obvious that all the owners really care about is making money. They are unfriendly, and treat the customers like cattle.
