If you do not know about this place you need to look it up before you go. Charming, old world Hacienda type hotel stuck out in no mans land on Ft Hunter-Liggett military base. $90 bucks a night and when the military is not have training exercises not many people around. Room we stayed in was on the first floor.... More

This is such a fantastic place. So much history and the rooms are incredible. I found it very peaceful...but be warned: You are about 45 minutes from the nearest store or restaurant, so come prepared. There is a bar which was open until about 10:00p.m. the night we stayed, but they were out of things... A very nice breakfast was... More

Got here on a Sunday afternoon after an unbelievable drive over the mountain from Big Sur. it was 104 degrees and the evaporative cooler was useless. Room was spacious. Bed was comfortable. Got scalded in the shower when the commode next door was flushed. Drove to King City for dinner, about 40 minutes away and closest place. You gotta like... More

This is on an active U.S. Army base. The Hacienda is built Mission-style and is a really fun and very different place to stay. We loved the shower built with rocks and it was just nice to be away from cookie-cutter modern styles. Bed was good, they had DirecTV. On Saturday nights, the bar next door gets plenty loud but... Don't expect Hearst Castle elegance here, only the lodge Hearst built for friends. This place is pretty interesting as a building, nestled in a nice area near the Army base. It was off season so the place was empty except for some hunters. We stayed in the Commander's Suite as there were 5 of us. 2 large bedrooms, a huge... More

My husband and I had the opportunity to stay at the Hacienda before a recent conference. The room rates were very reasonable and our Garden room (#2) was spacious and impeccably clean. Food options on base are limited, but the breakfast box was ample and included a muffin with butter, bagel and cream cheese, peanut butter, jelly, a hard-boiled egg,... More

What a wonderful, Julia Morgan design built for Hearst as a hunting lodge. Classic echoing of the nearby Mission San Antonio de Padua. A step back into the 1920's style and scale of buildings (not your very modern hotel). You do have to go through base security, so be prepartred and bring the necessary documents. Room was comfortable, breakfast very... More

I would not have found this place unless a friend-in-the-know had told me about it. I love the history and the beauty of this place. I think the oddity of it being on an army base just makes it that much more interesting. I recommend getting an upstairs TOWER ROOM which is where we stayed ~ very spacious and cool... More

I was here on business, and the Hacienda was the only game in town. It proved to be rustic, reassuring, and very comfortable, with architectural grace notes that reminded me that I was in a Julia Morgan building. (Those beams!) The rooms are showing their age (for example, I had trouble locking my door), but the sense of history more... More

To be honest, the drive is AMAZING to the hacienda...however if someone else was not doing the drive I never would have made it there...It is a serious white knuckle experience...beautiful but dangerous in spots. The Hacienda is a great piece of history. The breakfast provided is basic continental and the coffee is not great, but it is free. And... More
