Fun hotel, excellent reconstruction. The rooms contain lovely antiques but the bathrooms are updated. We sat on the patio and sampled the local Amador County wines. The staff is very friendly and play up the ghost story about "Flo" very well. The town is quiet but worth spending one day, be advised many of the stores are closed on Tuesday.... More

We booked a room with bath and were assigned room 5 that has a converted closet across the hall that is supposed to be the included bath. Moreover, the only window of the tiny room (with no closet) could not open. Let's not confuse old with charming! We refused our room and found another hotel.

Wonderful hotel! Our room was spacious, clean, comfortable, and tastefully decorated in period style. Hotel staff were gracious and accommodating. We received a very warm welcome when we arrived. The 2-person soaking tub was a definite plus, especially after each day of hectic touring. The dining room was another matter. Wife and I ordered a seafood dinner and a pork... More

Stayed two nights while we explored the gold country. Room was clean and cozy with period antiques. Double-headed shower, candy, and water bottles in the room is a nice touch. Host and staff were all friendly and professional. Great selection at breakfast - this is a bed and breakfast so breakfast comes with the room rate. We ate dinner here... More

This was a charming hotel. The staff was wonderful and the bar is great. Great atmosphere that takes you back in time. The balcony is a great spot to go sit on as well and where my boyfriend proposed to me last week so we will definitely be coming back! And you can also request a TV for your room.... More

My girl friend and I rendezvoused here - she picked it out - and it was perfect for us. We felt very comfortable in the place, both the ambiance and the staff were excellent. For an out of the way, low stress but still in California kind of place, where you don't really care about activities, instead wanting to connect... More

I really didn't think the room was that great. Musty smell, over the top decorations all crowded into a small room. I understand the attempt at period decorating, it was just a little much. Cleaning could be better, and we had an ant convention in the bath room. No TV, although didn't need one. What made up for the little... More

Thank you for your comments. The National Hotel is one of the 10 oldest hotels in the State of California. Yes, rooms are somewhat small and most of the antiques (decorations?) are authentic, and generally, our guests rave about the quality and cleanliness of the rooms which is one of our strong points. While tv's do not fit with our... More

Stayed mid-Septenber 2014. A beautifully historic hotel, with a most welcoming saloon bar as you check in. The whole hotel is a step back in time, but still up to date with things like good WiFi. Delightfully furnished rooms, good food and service in the restaurant and the saloon bar is great for a chat with both staff and customers.... More

My daughter and I stayed at the National the night before embarking on a week-long mother-daughter back packing adventure in Tuolomne Meadows. What a treat to stay at the National! The rooms exude charm, and it is obvious there has been great attention paid to historical detail throughout. Dinner was delicious; Steve Willey, the proprietor, is as welcoming and charming... We just loved our 1 night stay in this hotel and would have loved to stay longer. The hotel is so charming and full of history, with excellent service and lots of attention to detail. Rooms and general facilities are very well maintained, while maintaining the historical look. It really feels like stepping back hundred and fifty years in time,... More
