We stopped here overnight on our way to the Kyle of Lochalsh from Kent as it's conveniently situated just off the M6. Dinner and breakfast were both really excellent, using locally sourced produce (fantastic sausage and mushrooms!). Service was superb, friendly and efficient, particularly Chris, the barman, didn't mind my tasting all 3 of the ales on offer and then... More

We stayed here in order to visit nearby Lowther Castle. Whilst not the cheapest rate hotel I have ever booked, the staff are exceptionally friendly, welcoming and helpful without being too intrusive. The breakfast was amazing, I chose the scrambled egg and smoked salmon and it would have served two people at least! The bathroom was well stocked with good... More

We live in Windermere but always like to pop up to the Eden valley as it holds special memories for me and Mrs B. We've been looking to go to the George & Dragon for about 3 years and this Saturday we had some free time so headed on up the M6 to junction 40. It took a while to... More

We stayed at the George and Dragon for one night and ate dinner there too. The food was very good, reasonably priced and the whole place is decorated beautifully. All this considered, Richard the manager makes this place, his enthusiasm is second to none, we felt welcome immediately and he couldn't do enough for every guest there, I hope the... More

We were travelling to Scotland from hull and it was the perfect mid way spot to stop for the night. Not too far off the main route. Welcomed by V friendly staff and at least two roaring fires. Cozy atmosphere. Smallish but clean room no 3 is above bar. A little bit of noise but not enough to keep us... More

We stayed overnight in this delightful pub/hotel/restaurant. The Lowther room was lovely, very comfortable and all that could be required. The greatest strengths though are supplied twofold. A most caring and attentive staff, who couldn't do enough for us and a kitchen that provided one of the best meals I've had. Anywhere. We had dinner on New Years Eve and... More

Went for lunch with friends, we were sat in a shockingly cold, unatmospheric restaurant. Eventually order taken, but disappointingly options not available. Burgers, that were previously recommended, were dry and nothing special that warranted the £12 price tag! The second round of drinks were forgotten. Frankly we couldn't wait to leave the place to warm up! A real shame as... More

We stay here three or four times a year, from one to three nights. Excellent food, good bar, roaring fires, comfy well equipped bedrooms, but the defining factor is the excellent friendly and professional smiling service from everyone from the lady who does your room to the bar and restaurant staff. Part of a family run business in the best... More

We stayed one night with our dog. Big thumbs up for being such a genuinely dog-friendly inn/hotel. Pluses - really nice bar area and restaurant - smart but quite informal, stylish and warm. Extremeley nice folk. Great food and wine, we ate very well. And slept in a very comfortable bed. Minuses - you can't escape the annoying incessant hum... More
