We had a wonderful stay at Oceano to celebrate my dad’s birthday. We had four rooms in our party. Rooms were spacious, clean, decorated beautifully and we had a comfortable king size bed. We loved the ocean view from the balcony. The on-site restaurant had delicious food. Many other restaurants and pubs are within walking distance. Highly recommend staying here!

Beautiful hotel. We booked a double bed room. Beds separated by a half partition. The sitting area had a table , sofa, desk area, coffee table, wet bar, mini fridge, TV, and a balcony with two chairs and a table. The bathroom was very spacious. Separate shower and tub. The exterior and interior of the hotel was very well kept. We will return.

The room design was awkward, needlessly smushed the beds together, too much space left for what you did not come for: TV watching. Completely lacked privacy for the bathroom, which was separated from the beds by a bizarre shutter - you could hear everything. The shutter performed no function at all other than to facilitate being an exhibitionist in the bathroom. Not a value at all - other than spa treatment options, no pool, no whirlpool, nothing to do but stare at a tree blocking the view of the ocean. The front desk staff were like disengaged robots - even when there were no lines of customers. All the local places to eat were dead, not highly rated, and of no interest - we had to drive, so location was of no advantage. I fail to understand what justified the cost of this place. Go elsewhere.

Location: view of boat harbor (not true ocean view- you will not hear waves). There's a surprisingly busy road in front of "ocean" view rooms- this was pretty noisy, even on a Monday. They do offer cheap ear plugs for guests' relief. The "Shoppes" attached to hotel are a ghost town. There are a few food places in the Shoppes, but it's obvious that most storefronts have gone out of business. There are a few restaurants near the property that are good- Barbaras Fishtrap, Half Moon Bay Brewery and MezzaLuna. There are also a few smaller distilleries somewhat close by. Rooms- we stayed in King deluxe ocean front. Room has dated decor from late 90s and dated carpet. It has small refrigerator, but no microwave. There is a weird open shutter in the bathroom wall that connects to bed area, so there's not a lot of privacy there. Bath/soap products were sparse, and toilet paper was the cheapest quality. Bed is super firm. This is not the luxury spa room as purported on their website. If your only expectation is motel level, you'll probably be perfectly ok with this. Biggest complaint: they advertise on their site room service and spa services. HOWEVER, the Spa as well as room service, is only available Thursday through Sunday. That includes even ordering just a bottle of wine- no food. So if you stay Mon-Wed, you're outta luck. There are better places to stay in this area. Lesson learned on our part.

The service was excellent - with special mention to Jose in the reception area who was very responsive and went the extra mile to help us. The hotel is very convenient as it has access to a shopping center as well as the beach area which we loved visiting. The room was spacious and comfortable, except that whereas we reserved an ADA room, ours was only partially ADA as the shower was not a walk-in one. We think that the hotel should have more such rooms. Although we checked in on a Tuesday and the hotel restaurant was not open until Thursday, there are several excellent choices within walking distance of the hotel.

What could have been remembered as a not-so-pleasant weekend away was turned around by a staff that did everything within their power to make it otherwise! Upon arrival with our elderly parents, we were informed that the reservation we had made months prior had been “modified” and our Villa was no longer available. After a short period of panic all around Cendy at the front desk worked nothing short of a miracle (props to your fabulous negotiating and problem-solving skills, Cendy!) and secured us our intended lodging. Fiasco averted; we were helped with our multitude of bags by the first of a trio of the BEST bellman we’ve run into in a long time. Our villa was large and comfortable, providing us with everything we require when traveling with older parents (a full kitchen, two bedrooms, two baths – one ADA - no stairs and lots of open area). TBH, the views from the villas are not prime (a parking lot and a teeny bit of the ocean by the on-site wedding venue and the wedding venue itself) though it appears many rooms do offer a lovely harbor / ocean view. The ceilings in all the rooms are vaulted, and the large space slow to heat but we found that space heaters had been conveniently placed in all the rooms, and they worked well to keep things toasty when it became cold and blustery outside. The hotel is close to several yummy restaurants, many within walking distance, and there is a convenient garage below with direct access to the elevators. When setting out to explore on our first morning we found an out of order sign taped to the elevator servicing our villa. When asked, the staff told us this would be repaired within a couple of hours so we accepted the inconvenience with a nod and did our best to navigate our parents through the hotel’s skyway and out to our car. When we returned from our outing, and were then informed that the elevator would be out of order for the entirety of our stay, the issue of getting our parents around for the remainder of the weekend became problematic. At this point, we may well have packed up and headed home had it not been for the quick response from the Keaton, manager of the hotel. Upon hearing of our situation, he rallied quickly, locating wheel chairs for our use and providing us with a direct line to the bellman on his staff who made themselves available to assist us at the drop of a hat. All in all, and taking into special account the speed in which unforeseen issues were addressed by this phenomenal staff, we would recommend the Oceano Hotel and Spa to anyone traveling in the Half Moon Bay area.

We were here for our daughter's wedding. The BEST place to hold such an event. The attention to detail was superb. The entire weekend went smoothly with no hiccups!! Having our wedding guests be able to stay at the hotel was the best - made for a very comfortable and easy way to see everyone. Love, love, love the Oceano and will always appreciate how well they handled the wedding. BTW, the rooms are fantastic and food is superb!! 5 stars all the way around!

Weekend staycation with my wife in this beautiful oceanside town of Half Moon Bay. We picked Oceano Hotel for its convenient location, free parking and it is a walking distance to several restaurants. The hotel’s lobby is lovely with high ceiling and it is tastefully decorated. The check in was welcoming, pleasant and quick. Our assigned room was clean, with 2 queen size beds, there is a living room with a large screen tv and a fireplace. Our room also has a balcony with a sliding glass door with ocean and marina views. The bathroom appeared very clean and is spacious with a separate tub and an enclosed shower. My bed and pillows were comfortable that provided me with an uninterrupted sleep and I woke up very refreshed in the morning. My minor negative observations are that the tv in the bedroom is so small in these day and age. And when we first arrived to our room, we found the door to our room was left open by whomever who last cleaned it. Also I could not locate the thermostat at first, and I found out later on that the thermostat was obscured by a table lamp. After we got settled in our room, we simply walked to a nearby restaurant to have a delicious seafood dinner. The relatively spacious fridge in our room was spacious enough for all the leftover food from our dinner and with enough space for the 2 large sandwiches we brought to the hotel.

Disappointed in this overpriced budget hotel. We got a room with a view. Ha! Yes, the marina was out there, but only once your eyes and ears got past a huge public parking lot. Late Saturday night the noise outside drew us to the window to see what was going on. In the parking lot that constituted most of our view, the owner of a 1960s low-rider car was trying to get its engine going, and apparently was revving the engine at a high RPM for 15-20 minutes to prevent against it stopping. It was ridiculous. Wish I could say that was the only disturbance of this kind. Booked a “suite.” In my book, suite means two different rooms. Not - one big room with a waist high wall to separate “the living room.” Bed was old and soft, and I woke up with a back ache. “Spa” was barely open. Not clear that it is a real spa. Couldn’t ever get anyone to answer phone - phone forwarded to front desk every time I called. Asked if I could get manicure, and told they don’t do manicures. Really? What kind of spa doesn’t do manicures. Furniture a bit dated and worn. They seem to benefit from the shine that the Ritz Carlton puts on Half Moon Bay. Make no mistake - this is no number two to the Ritz. Go Ritz or go home.
