Even as historic hotels go, the Holbrooke is pretty no-frills, with only the most basic amenities. That said, our rear-facing room was clean and comfortable, with an ample bed and a pleasant outdoor terrace for reading and taking in the sunset; there was no in-room air-conditioning control, but the desk staff was prompt in adjusting the temperature as needed. When... More

This Hotel does not reserve parking for hotel guests so you may have to walk a couple of blocks while carrying your luggage. The doors have been kicked in and wood puttied so many times that the slightest push will open the door even when dead bolted. Very noisy both from the street and other rooms. No temperature control so... More

Being raised in the area but having moved away I was interested in visiting since I had seen Hotel Impossible. We learned while we were there that there was a new owner. He was the chef. We had dinner and sat outside. Dinner was great and the service was almost as good. A little confusing to get seated, you have... More

We were initially excited about our stay at the Holbrooke since it was recently renovated by Hotel Impossible. At first glance, when we arrived, the hotel seemed quaint and cozy. Don't be fooled by fist impressions. Our room looked like it hadn't been cleaned. It had a funky smell to it. It's okay to look historic but it doesn't need... More

This hotel is charming and historic. The location is very good for local restaurants and nice historic walks around the town. The decor is charming and unique features like the claw foot tubs make one feel like they've gone back in time. One expects a few challenges in historic properties, so we were not too concerned when minor issues arose.... More

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Holbrooke. The hotel is certainly quaint and maintained in period décor which was a nice change to modern renos. The room was small, but comfortable, and we weren't disturbed by "things that go bump in the night". (We found out later that the hotel is supposedly haunted.) The clawfoot tub was interesting to use.... More

A listed building, with all the quirkiness implied, the Holbrooke is a must stay for Gold Country. We arrived to a cold room (the heating had broken) but were immediately supplied with supplementary heaters which did a good job. The claw foot tub was delightful and getting the shower to run hot a challenge, but all part of the experience.... More

The Holbrooke Hotel can now be marked off the bucket list. As a paranormal researcher by hobby and a photographer as a passion, I just had to visit and stay at this historical sitel. The staff was kind, and had plenty of stories about things that rattled in the middle of the night. I choose to stay in one of... More

We chose the Holbrooke Hotel as our base of operations for a day of wine tasting and dining, followed by an evening visit to Nevada City. The hotel was charming and our room was neat and clean. The temperature in our room was quite high but was quickly corrected by the front desk. I got the impression that all room... More

We stayed here Saturday, November 9th. The Place is full of old history and the woman at the front desk was really friendly and informative. We had a pet room which was nice and clean. (They charge at non refundable $50. pet fee, which is a bit high) We loved the fact that this place is located in the historic... More
