If you like cozy, comfortable, rustic accommodations in an ideal location for hiking and exploring, I highly recommend staying here. My 20-month-old toddler and I stayed here over Labor Day weekend and had a delightful time. The cabin was big enough for our needs with comfortable beds, very clean, and with shampoo, soap, towels, etc. provided.

The cabins are actually a bit bigger and brighter than they appear in the pix on the website, with 2 windows. Same with the dining lodge and rec room -- both bigger builidngs than one would think from the website pix.

The food was great, the staff extremely friendly, and the place was filled with history. The "rec hall" had games, books, puzzles, a fireplace, etc. and the "family style" dining made for an easy way to meet other folks. Also, there were comfortable chairs scattered about under the trees for lounging. I didn't go to the evening campfire so I can't comment on that.

In about a 4 mile loop, you will pass by 7 Alpine lakes just by heading out your cabin door. Hikes can be as easy or hard as you want with close access to the Pacific Crest Trail. Other activities in the area include fishing, boating, windsurfing, horseback riding, mountain biking, gold mines and mining history, and even golf (by heading back into town). The lodge is small with only 10 cabins (so you really feel uncrowded), rustic (national historic landmark), but very comfortable. Row boats are available to lodge guests at two of the lakes. The Barker family who owns this place are so...
