Stayed at the Benbow Inn while driving from Humboldt County to the Bay Area. It's just a few minutes from the 101, making access easy, but road noise non-existent. The rooms were spacious and the decor was classic. Many activities nearby, we went swimming in the Eel River and mountain biking using bikes rented on the premises. Food and service... More

We have been coming up to this area for years for the Reggae on the River festival but never stayed at the inn. We usually camp at the local campgrounds. This year the campgrounds were full by the time we got our tickets for the show. We knew there was a free shuttle to and from the showgrounds so this... More

Dear Vivian M, Having attended this year's 30th Reggae on the River, I can attest that it indeed was a great event. We are pleased that you joined us during this memorable weekend in the redwoods. We appreciate your review and we hope to see you next year for this outstanding event. More

This hotel is old with some charm. However, the noise from the freeway is annoying as was the attitude of the hotel staff. The folks who worked here weren't particularly friendly nor were they well-informed. Our room, in the "newer " part of the hotel, was nice enough but nothing special. The best part of the hotel was the restaurant.... More

Here we go again; yes the Benbow Historic Inn is old. It was built by the Benbow Family in 1926 with the help of architect, Albert Farr. This was a major accomplishment when you consider the lack of resources in this rural location in the 1920’s. No power, no Home Depot to get supplies, etc. The Benbows had to make... More

Really neat Inn that takes you back to the 1920s. Loved the robes and crème sherry waiting in our room. Hotel grounds are lovely. Inside could use a bit of sprucing up. Patio dining is beautiful. Restaurant has a dress code. Other choices for dinner are about five minutes up the highway in a quirky little town. Overall, great experience.... More

Dear Janet C, Thanks for taking the time to review our Historic Inn. Some guests expect modern, contemporary features from Historic properties - we're not sure why. We often hear that a visit to Benbow is "like stepping back in time." We appreciate your comments and will open a new can of Spruce prior to your next visit. More

We had our honeymoon their 43 yrs ago. We have made many ret,urn visits since then. On our last visit , our anaversy, there was a bottle of champane in our room. All of our stays have been perfect. I recommend this Inn over any other hotel we have ever stayed in.

Dear Michael K, Thank you for spending your anniversary with us and writing the wonderful review. We are always delighted to host our past "honeymooners." While much has changed since 1971, we strive to duplicate the high level of service that you enjoyed 43 short years ago. Please don't wait another 43 years to return. More

I loved staying here. The room was really nice: clean, comfortable and relaxing. Service is really excellent and the hotel, which was built in the 1920s in the style of an English Elizabethan Manor, has a lot of charm. Scones and tea are served in the 'great hall' between 3 and 4 p m. The restaurant serves an excellent breakfast... More

Dear HOPEFULLY_12, We appreciate your kind words and review. We are fortunate to host numerous guests from Sonoma County and we were delighted that you took the time to rate our Historic Inn. Our Tea & Scone service is a favorite for many of our guests and a great reason to check-in between 3:00 and 4:00. More

Great staging area for exploring the redwoods for anyone who prefers a hotel to camping. Great restaurant. Food was excellent but a bit pricey, but that's what you pay for good food in the middle of a beautiful wilderness area.

My wife and I and our golden retriever, The Amazing Fezziwig (check out his Facebook page). We had a room that accepted dogs and we loved it. It was late July and it was HOT, HOT, HOT! All rooms are air conditioned and that helped. Dining for lunch on the huge patio was HOT! Dining in the evening was perfect!... More

We stayed one night in a Terrace King room with private patio as one of our stops traveling up the coast. Our main reason for choosing this location is it's proximity to Avenue of the Giants, and it is indeed located near the southern entrance to this wonderful drive. Check-in was fine although it's not immediately obvious where to go... More

Dear Anne C, Thank you for the insight regarding your stay with us. As pointed out, truly historical lodging properties can be a different experience then staying in a new chain motel. What makes us different is we are authentic. For example, all of our public area doors & windows are original. Not only would we not think of removing... More

After staying here I was truly disappointed in the poor manners of the staff conveyed. For planning events especially they do not return calls or get back when they say they will. The location seems beautiful, however at a closer look their landscaping is very poor and the lawns are dead. Very disappointed in their service and what they had... More

This person was not a guest at the Inn. They were trying to plan a wedding for next month, something one does a year in advance. They apparently had another venue before contacting us which for some reason “fell through”. We were trying our best to accommodate them in a very short period of time for planning a wedding. In...
