We stayed one night in a Terrace King room with private patio as one of our stops traveling up the coast. Our main reason for choosing this location is it's proximity to Avenue of the Giants, and it is indeed located near the southern entrance to this wonderful drive. Check-in was fine although it's not immediately obvious where to go... More

After staying here I was truly disappointed in the poor manners of the staff conveyed. For planning events especially they do not return calls or get back when they say they will. The location seems beautiful, however at a closer look their landscaping is very poor and the lawns are dead. Very disappointed in their service and what they had... More

I recently planned and coordinated a wedding for 200+ people at The Benbow. Of all the venues I've worked at, the staff at The Benbow takes the cake! Every single one of them worked insanely hard and went over and beyond to make sure every little detail was tended to and taken care of. They were polite, had great manners,... More

Dear J29Events, Thank you for your review and your outstanding service! Although our recent wedding exceeded 200 guests, you kept the entire weekend event schedule flowing with the precision of a swiss watch. It was such a pleasure working with you. Our entire staff gave you rave reviews for a job well done. We look forward to working with you... More

I have always wanted to stay at the Benbow as I have driven past a few times and had hurried lunches on the Terrace. We reserved a King Terrace Room, which is just beyond the Terrace and down 2 flights of stairs. The room was quite large and comfortable with a large screen tv, roomy bathroom, and mini fridge. The... More

Dear Sanfrann, Thank you for taking the time to review our Historic Inn. It's interesting to note that many of our first-time dining and overnight guests tell us that they have been driving by our Inn for years. Perhaps we need a larger sign. We are working with an architect and engineer to design an elevator solution for the Inn.... More

As we traveled through the Redwoods, we assumed we'd stay in a roadside motel. However, curiosity got us and we pulled into the Benbow Inn without a reservation. As soon as we walked in the door we felt as if we stepped back in time - but in a good way! They were very friendly, ready to offer us their... More

Dear Peronna, Thank you for taking the time to write such a nice review. As you may have been informed by our staff during your recent visit, we are working with our architect to add an elevator at the Inn that will enhance our 88-year historic property without detracting from its classic look and feel. We are also adding new... More

I found this to be a lovely hotel which was part of a cycling tour. I especially enjoyed the places to sit outside and the excellent restaurant. It is a good location for Avenue of the Giants. Quiet, peaceful.

We arrived here with several other cyclists on a trip through the Redwoods in early July. The first thing my wife said was 'its right out of an Agatha Christie novel!'. Lovely classic hotel, with a great lobby, lovely dining hall with white linen table clothes. I fully expected to see Hercule Poirot fussing over his hard-boiled egg in the... More

Dear Photo Traveler Dan, Thank you for your review. We host many cycling groups at the Inn throughout the year and were pleased that you selected our property. I noticed several cyclists in our lounge this morning who were enjoying an early breakfast while viewing the Tour de France. We hope you will join us again on your next visit... More

Initial impressions of the property were much better than we expected; sometimes these old historic properties are more about the history than the present (i.e., comfort is sacrificed) but we were quite taken-back by the cottage, the rooms, the grounds and the patio. Very nice indeed. Dinner was quite good; not a competition for the best in California, but well... More

Dear Real_FoodieToronto, Thank you for your review. Our goal is to always provide the ultimate in comfortable, serene environments for our guests. Some years ago when it became clear that the unreliability of the inn’s cooling system jeopardized guest comfort, the inn replaced the old, inefficient cooler system with a modern chiller system. Our Cottage is equipped with this system,... More

Dear Sandy909... Thank you for your review. We are delighted that you had a great mother-daughter getaway and were able to explore the Avenue of the Giants - it is truly an amazing gateway to the redwoods and is a favorite day trip for the majority of our guests. We stayed in the cottage room, and it's the closest room to Hwy 101. If you're a light sleeper, the zipping big rigs will keep you awake. The wifi was also unreliable from this room. The service was great, as they (no questions asked) let us out of the 2nd night reservation so we can move to another hotel and... More

Dear Aridon99 We appreciate your feedback and comments. Our location is a double-edged sword. Not only do we have our own unique exit off the redwood highway (Benbow Exit 636) we are a convenient stopping point for guests traveling between the bay area and the Pacific Northwest. If we were to build a new property in Humboldt County, lodging industry... More
