This quaint Bed and Breakfast is walking distance to shopping, dining and lovely hikes. The breakfasts were awesome! Feline hostess, Sweet Pea, was very welcoming and accommodating. Having a cat welcome you feels very much like home.

I consider myself a reasonably well traveled individual who is tolerant of many different lodging options. I've been known to stay in motor inns as well as five-star hotels. Just wanted to give a frame of reference here...I'm not too picky. I was passing through Ft. Bragg and decided to call it a night. It was a Saturday afternoon and... More

The pictures looked great so we booked a night. Had there been any other options we would have left once we got to our room. It smelled funny and was very oddly decorated. It was a tired place that could be remarkable. We felt it was clean though so we stayed and we laughed in bed while reading the reviews.... More

We stopped by the Grey Whale Inn while visiting Ft. Bragg. We had stayed here (just like another reviewer) 27 years ago on our honeymoon when it was LOVINGLY cared for by John and Colette Bailey. We wanted to visit, take a look around. The grounds were awful; the garden has gone awry. The door was locked with a sign... More

I just want to respond to these negative points: Garden: When I bought this inn, 13 years ago, it was a old water-guzzling pesticide-saturated lawn, and because of the eco-friendly culture in this town on the coast, I was inspired to convert it to a more natural, drought tolerant garden. Local non-profit organizations have been involved. It is completely organic.... More

My boyfriend and I spent only one night here but wished we could have stayed longer. A refurbished hospital, come family home, come hotel; it was charming and unique with large ensuite rooms and lots of character. The lady at reception was very welcoming and showed us around so we could pick our favourite style and view. She also recommended... More

We had stayed here on our honeymoon, so booked it for our 25th anniversary without checking reviews. This place used to be great. It is is very run down now. The outside needs paint, the inside needs a good cleaning and lots of repairs are needed. Don't believe the good reviews, they have got to be fakes! There was no... More

We have stayed at the Grey Whale Inn twice now and both times enjoyed it very much. The sunset room has an awesome view and the place just has a neat old Fort Bragg feel to it. Walking to the beach is really close and it is close enough to just walk main street. The owner/operator is super nice to... More

This was one of the coolest places I've ever stayed! Its an awesome old building! Each room was large, clean and uniquely different. We were passing through for the night, saw it and decided to check it out. We were lucky they had availability. Mike was awesome and welcoming and so was Sweet Pea the cat. Mike is also an... More

What a great time we had at Grey Whale Inn. The food was super! The Inn was a charming experience. Your 99 year old building is a true treasure to the Fort Bragg area. Mike has done a great job making everyone feel comfortable, however the best job is done by Sweet-pea. This kitty walks the halls and rooms making... More

I stayed for two weeks or so a few years back. It is a wonderful, creative and quirky place. Full of love and not the least bit haunted as far as I could tell. I stayed in several different rooms and always woke up happy. I miss The Gray Whale Inn!
