I wonder what John Lautner would say these days, if he could see the neighbourhood around his amazing building. Hotel Lautner is a unique oasis in the desert. Forget about the rest of Desert Hot Springs and if you ever come here, just do as Tracy Beckmann and Ryan Trowbridge, the two designers who run the hotel, suggest: Buy your... More

We chose Hotel Lautner to have our Wedding Feb. 15th 2014 and it was an AmAzing experience from start to finish. It was the perfect location and the people who run the Lautner bent over backwards to make sure that our special day was perfect....Although they do have very strict rules at the Lautner given the History of the Property...as... What a treat to be able to stay in a John Lautner designed project! If you are a fan of Lautner or mid-century modern design, then this place should not be missed! The restoration is more that can be asked for as the owners took loving care to bring this place back up to the highest standard. It feels like... More

This hotel is an oasis. The architecture is incredible, and the interiors are incredibly decorated, fitting the property. The owners include great records and cds. The lighting of the property and the plants is amazing. The firepit is relaxing to hang out near. I didn't try the dipping pool because it was cold out, and it is not hot tub, it... More

The interiors are absolutely exquisite in their finishing, with every detail meticulously thought through and every convenience - bar one - provided. The only real drawback was internet reception which seemed spotty and at times, disappeared entirely - and for those travelling without the benefits of a US calling plan, wi-fi is absolutely essential. It is quite a drive from... More

If you're looking for crash pad for the night, this isn't for you. If you have the ability to appreciate an architectural wonder that has been marvelously restored with elegance and an acute eye for period aesthetic, then this place is a "must". Nights here aren't a stay - they're an experience, with no detail missed. The rooms are oases... More

It is so beautiful here, the grounds and rooms are so modern. The room is surrounded by huge windows, and has nicely lit landscaping, which is amazing to see at night. Coffee in the morning and lounging around on the sofa by evening It was very clean and comfortable. I look forward to future visits very soon!

Learned about this hotel / vacation rental hybrid a year ago, near it's opening. I was lured in by the designer's visions, and finding myself often in the Desert Cities region, I dreamed of checking out this painstakingly restored, Lautner, circa '47, historic gem. We arrived to Hotel Lautner, originally built as a film producer's desert escape, on a cold... More

I'm not going to repeat any of the items mentioned by the prior reviewer in "A few things to know." Read that -- it's all true! I will add my .02. My sig other and I jumped at the chance to stay at a Lautner designed hotel -- the architecture is the real draw here, all wood, glass and midcentury... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Lautner is the chance of a lifetime to actually get to live the "Lautner Lifestyle" in your very own private John Lautner flat! John Lautner was one of America's most legendary architects and this property is an example of one of his earliest works and his only hotel. The private 4-unit compound boasts amazing cactus and succulent gardens throughout, a fire pit lounge complete with infrared BBQ and vintage modern outdoor dining area with umbrella, retro butterfly chairs scattered throughout the grounds for gazing at the incredible architecture and a heavenly outdoor saline plunge pool with lounge area to soak up the sun complete with outdoor shower. The four units are like renting your own mid-century modern studio apartment and are the perfect escape for a night or two or three. Each unit sleeps two adults on a queen size bed, priceless vintage modern decor, stainless steel kitchenettes complete with bar sinks, induction cook tops, microwaves, Kuerig coffee systems and all of cooking and dining ware one could need, well appointed bathrooms with rain showers, upscale plumbing fixtures and towel warmers, Frette linens, towels and robes, L'Occitane amenities, TV/DVD players, MP3 Radios/Disc Players, private terraces with loungers (so private you can sunbathe naked) and three sided glass walls surrounded by beautiful cactus gardens with rock lights will envelope you.The hotel is a hybrid between upscale vacation rental property and micro-boutique hotel. A staff member is there to greet you at the locked compound with keys, a brief tour to familiarize guests with the accommodations and then you are on your own to enjoy your getaway. There is a 24/7 concierge if you should need anything during your stay just a phone call away. The hotel is only a 15 minute drive from the heart of Palm Springs or just 30 minutes away from spectacular Joshua Tree National Park. Guests can also visit neighboring mineral springs resorts and the hotel is more than happy to set up reservations for you. Guests can also schedule in room massages thru the hotel staff. Quite honestly, most guests just visit the neighborhood Vons to stock up and enjoy being on the grounds as long as they can and seldom leave the architectural sanctuary that is "Hotel Lautner". ... more   less
