If you're driving on CA 1 and need a place to stay, and don't want to stay in Santa Cruz, this place is OK. Rooms seem clean except the carpets. There are apparently no windows in any rooms in the main building, which is unfortunate because the room we stayed in had a terrible smell coming from the bathroom. You... More

We live about ten miles south of Davenport, have driven thru all the times up to San Francisco. One trip home we decided to stop and get a brochure for The Roadhouse. Our stay for one night was in The Captains Room, which has windows on all sides, King bed, couches, little fake fireplace, ocean view, perfect. We stayed on... More

The Roadhouse has great food, a good wine selection, a tasty bakery counter, a small shop with local slow-coast handmade items, friendly staff, quirky rooms upstairs for travelers, and a separate group of cottages next door. A couple of nights a week there is live music in the bar. The Pacific Ocean is right across the street. I've spent a... More

My wife and I have dined at the Roadhouse many times over the years. We stop in for dinner while in our way to Carmel or for a civilized meal while camping locally. Our most recent experience was last night. The food is always good, pasties and desserts yummy, but the service can be a little inconsistent. The brussel sprouts... More

First thing when we walked into the restaurant was the VERY STRONG nose burning smell of Lysol..... Ick! How was the food? We couldn't tell you. After standing at the "please wait to be seated" sign long enough to watch four hostesses walk back and forth between tables, not once looking at us to say "I'll be right there" and... More

We were on a road trip in California and stopped off at the Roadhouse for a cup of coffee. The bar attendant was very off hand especially when she found out we did not want food and only wanted a cup of coffee. It was possible to have one shot or two and we were not asked what we wanted.... More

Wow! You will enjoy the maple glazed duck medallions with risotto. A gourmet preparation that melts in your mouth. Really delicious. The atmosphere is relaxing. A very nice dining experience. The wait staff was professional and attentive. The prices fair.

I found this place online and was a bit surprised that it was some 25 miles from my selected destination. The village of Davenport has about 350 residents, and is marked from afar by the towering and defunct cement plant. The apparent part of Davenport is about or 6 buildings congregated in a line along Highway 1. I had scheduled... More

Our family went to pick organic strawberries earlier that day. We went to two places - one was much more crowded and had a much smaller plot of land than the second farm, which was 8 miles away. This second farm was Swanton U-Pick, which was absolutely fantastic. Apparently, the difference is that Swanton only opens on weekends, while the... More

Terrible food. I asked for a spicy pork chop with chimi-churri. I got an overcooked pork chop with very cold pesto that came out of the freezer. My son had the worst burger, very very dry. No idea about the hotel but the food was one of the worst dinners that we have had in a long time.
