We checked in fairly late on our way to Mammoth and were just looking for a place to crash for the night and leave early to get on the slopes. Upon arrival we discovered the staff had turned on the small electric wall heaters, which was a nice touch considering it was freezing outside. We stayed in room 1, which... More

If you're looking for the uniformity of motel chains like Best Western/ Comfort Inns etc. Tom's Place is definitely not for you! We had stopped off at the restaurant the previous year and had been intrigued by the place, being advised to stay in one of the 'non-rustic' cabins if we planned to stay over on a return visit. Some... More

Ok, so it's not the Hilton, but why would you be staying here if you expected that? Sure, there's old bathrooms, fixtures, lack of outlets, etc., but the beds are comfy enough, and it has a nice historic feel. It was clean and neat and felt more like staying in an old mountain cabin, which it kind of is. Good,... More

Wow 200 words to describe filth. To whom ever is reading these reviews you really need to heed the advice given. This place is deseased. The bathrooms are filthy, so bad that I wouldn't use. Made a trip to the portable outhouse down the street if that tells you anything. There was bloody bandages stuck on the wall by the... More

Alongside the original highway 395, now owned by local folks with a stake in your comfort, lies a motel, restaurant and store with real character. Located close to fishing, and two of the finest hiking trailheads in the Sierra, this is the ideal jumping off spot. Try one of their over the top American breakfasts and you will go up... More

I was in Crowley Lake to do the fireworks show for the 4th of July. I had reservations in Mammoth at the Motel 6 because they accepted pets. Tom's place does not. Motel 6 is 15 mi from Crowley Lake and I thought that was too much of a commute. At the last minute we decided to give Tom's Place... More

We started planning this trip to the Eastern Sierras thinking we might like to camp and fish. We are older now and camping doesn't hold the appeal it did when we were younger. So we decided to try Tom's Place instead. If you start thinking "tent" as opposed to "hotel," Tom's is almost better. It does have a toilet and... More

Great atmosphere, lots of history to this place, very cozy, friendly thowback place. Our servers were very friendly and we had a little wait, but nothing excessive Store, bar, dinning room all connected but sperate. I was part of a group of 10 guys that were camping in nearby French Camp (1/2 miles from Tom's). We all decided to go... More

I love Tom's place. The location is gorgeous -- right between Bishop and Mammoth, convenient to amazing hiking and fishing. It has cabins, rooms in a main house, a cafe, bar and general store. I also love the fact that Tom's Place is listed on the freeway signs as though it were its own town, and it feels like a... More

My husband and I have a travel trailer and satisfactorily stayed a night at McGee's Campground. We decided to head to Tom's Place Cafe to have dinner. We stood by the door for 5-7minutes while the waitresses continued to walk by without acknowledging us, and finally we were told we could sit anywhere. After another 20-30 minutes, the waitresses (two)... More
