We visited Columbia to enrich our daughter's 4th grade study of the California Gold Rush. We opted to drive up on a Friday to stay over rather than "Day Trip" it and we're glad we did - staying at the City Hotel overnight, and waking up in an authentic 1850s town - BEFORE all the tourists arrived, was really amazing.... We loved this historic hotel right on the main street in Columbia. Very quiet at night and a real step back in time. Don't expect a Four Seasons style hotel with all the fluff. Do expect a charming and authentic experience. Note to pilots: we flew in to the nearby airport (o22) which is a 10 minute walk down the... More

The hotel captures the 19th century aura beautifully. We stayed in room 7. We had queen bed and 2 (working) windows. The dressed in the room was big enough to hold 3 days of clothing. The pastry shop had coffee in the morning. Everything is within walking distance. You can even make your own candles at the Seven Sisters candle... More

Imagine yourself transported to the late 1800's. You will be surrounded by authentic furniture and the feel of a period gold rush Inn, with the comfort of modern cozy mattress and a hot shower. All is merged seamlessly, with the modern amenities not intruding into the historical feel of the hotel. High ceilings, board games, quiet night, my kids still... More

This was one of the most delightful vacations I can remember. The staff were SO FAR BEYOND awesome that it's hard to even put into words. We all had a great time and they were so accommodating. We will definitely return to The City Hotel often.

Fantastic lodging experience in this historic Gold Rush hotel. They do a great job of taking you back in time, the furnishings, wall paper, window dressings, with just the right amount of essential modern convenience. They say wifi is soon to become available, which would be nice. I had a room in the front with a great view of the... More

It was wonderful and staff was friendly and helpful. Waking to the peaceful views from the balcony and being able to walk out the door to a historical town was precious to my daughters and I. The decor was wonderful and. The climate beautiful.

Columbia itself is gorgeous, magic really, so to stay anywhere but the City Hotel or The Fallon means leaving Columbia and why would anyone want to do that? Both hotels are gorgeous period places but with AC and heat so win win. The staff is great and unobtrusive so it's like staying in a country house you have to yourself.

The 2 bedroom cottage was located 1/2 block from historic Columbia's main street. The cottage was clean and had a well equipped kitchen. The bedrooms were pretty small with a double bed in one room and 2 twin beds in the other one. I took my daughter and 2 grandsons in August so they could be immersed in the history... More

I was a bit hesitant to stay at this hotel at first with all the talk of ghosts. It made my nights stay a bit restless. Staff is excellent, rooms are clean. The only downside was the communal bathrooms. Columbia City Hotel is located in a great little old western town within the Historic Park. It's a must see. And... More
