For a respite from the rat race and some peace and quiet; this is the place to go! Located inside Lassen Volcanic National Park, the Ranch is off the grid and literally at the end of the road. I recommend the bungalows. They look out onto a beautiful alpine meadow. While the bungalows do not have electricity and are rustic,... More

I have hiked and ridden my horses through here numerous times. This was my first stay. This off the grid resort is located in the southern mid/east edge of Lassen Volcanic National Park. Access is an easy 17 miles fro the town of Chester. Most of the road is paved. The last few miles to the resort is a well... More

We have a nearby cabin with no electricity or running water in Warner Valley. When we are there, we frequently take time out for a swim, shower and dinner at Drakesbad. The previous innkeepers were replaced this year, and the showers, food and ambiance are greatly improved. It's like being on a cruise ship without the bothersome rocking of a... More

The (small) simple cabins don't have electricity and only have half baths, but Drakesbad Ranch is still an excellent solution for touring Lassen Park. Surprisingly sophisticated food, an excellent, reasonably priced wine list, a large hot springs pool and showers set in a beautiful meadow, stables for the horsy crowd, and excellent service make for a lovely stay. Several interesting... More

We just returned from 3 nights staying in one of the cabins at Drakesbad. The location is like no other situated at the edge of a beautiful meadow in Warner Valley. It is a perfect vacation if you want to get away from it all. You can't access the internet and there is no cell coverage - you have no... More

We reserved 3 nights in duplex #1. We left after 2 sleepless nights due to infestation of mice in our cabin. First night was a sleepless night; chewing on wood was loud. I will add, we locked up our food in the cabin, yet night #2 we caught 2 mice, both in wastebaskets; found the loud wood chewing mice, 3... More

Stayed at Drakesbad two nights (June 6 and 7). New host Errol was very helpful and the staff bent over backwards to make things go correctly for the opening weekend. Awesome relaxing experience although we had camped at the nearby Warner Valley Campground three times and knew the area. Made it to Drake's Lake, Devil's Kitchen, and Boiling Springs Lake,... More

Drakesbad is an awesome place to escape. There's great hiking nearby (Devil's Kitchen was fun), you get no cell phone signal and the room we stayed in had no electricity -- only kerosene lamps! This results in some of the most restful sleep you will likely ever have! Of course you can't forget the natural spring fed outdoor pool, which... More
