They have a nicely printed menu for dinner which raises your expectations.....however, it was not what it was served. Menu said lamb chops with wheatberry and pasta (which is a healthy grain) but it was served with WHITE rice. When I asked the waitress about it, she said she asked the same question and was told rice is a pasta.... More

Despite the gorgeous location, outstanding scenery, and delicious meals, Drakesbad Guest Ranch was an expensive disappointment. We visited on June 13 and 14, 2015 and stayed one night in a bungalow and the next night in a cabin. In general, the place was not very clean, not well organized, and not well supplied. Here are some examples: the night we... More

Our first time staying at Drakesbad -- it was wonderful. We had a bungalow on the meadow (highly recommended) next to friends in the bungalow next door. The food was delicious, there were plenty of things to do: hike the volcanic areas, hang out in the hot springs pool, take a horseback ride, or just sit and watch the sunlight... More

My wife and I spent a 4 day weekend at Drakesbad and I cannot recommend it highly enough. We live in the SF Bay Area - and upon our return we both said that this felt like a long vacation - not just a 4 day weekend which included a lot of driving. Drakesbad is unique - be sure this... More

Stayed here 25 years ago and don't know why it took me so long to return. It is better than ever! Rustic elegance is what they wanted and have achieved. The meadow location is stunningly beautiful and unspoiled. With almost no electricity you will see the stars as though they were painted on your ceiling and it is so quiet... More

It was my 65th birthday week and I wanted to get a way to one of my favorite places, Lassen Volcanic National Park. I've always car camped in the past, this time I wanted to treat myself. The ranch is at the end of a four mile dirt road. The accommodations are either in the lodge or cabins. We chose... More

Drakesbad serves a very specific clientele. You have to be seeking rustic, natural and quiet. No electricity, no keys, no big city amenities. In other words, perfect for the beautiful setting in Lassen Volcanic Nat'l Park. There are hiking trails that start right from the main building that take you to some great hydrothermal features. Or, if you chose, you... More

For a respite from the rat race and some peace and quiet; this is the place to go! Located inside Lassen Volcanic National Park, the Ranch is off the grid and literally at the end of the road. I recommend the bungalows. They look out onto a beautiful alpine meadow. While the bungalows do not have electricity and are rustic,... More

I have hiked and ridden my horses through here numerous times. This was my first stay. This off the grid resort is located in the southern mid/east edge of Lassen Volcanic National Park. Access is an easy 17 miles fro the town of Chester. Most of the road is paved. The last few miles to the resort is a well... More

We have a nearby cabin with no electricity or running water in Warner Valley. When we are there, we frequently take time out for a swim, shower and dinner at Drakesbad. The previous innkeepers were replaced this year, and the showers, food and ambiance are greatly improved. It's like being on a cruise ship without the bothersome rocking of a... More
