My family goes to Drakesbad every other year. We have been doing this for decades. In the "off summers" (non-Drakesbad years), I MISS the place. It is rustic, you are fed gourmet meals every day, the hiking is great, and the hot pool is hot. Love it! More

I was at Drakesbad in Lassen for three days and nights last weekend. It was a great visit. The managers there are excellent and take care of your needs, often before you ask for the help. The food served fopr all meals was quite tasty. I highly recommend Drakesbad. More

We have returned year after year to Drakesbad because of it's rustic atmosphere and because it has activities for our entire family. We found it ideal as our family grew older as the children could have increasing freedom in a safe environment. The one major downfall is the draining of Dream Lake, a major error on the Lassen Parks part;... More

Yes, it's out of the way. Very much so. But well worth it to enjoy family time, and beautiful surroundings. it is on the expensive side, and quite rustic. However, you feel well cared for, and the staff is very hard working and friendly. Great retreat for the family to relax, hike and enjoy the excellent horse program. My kids... More

My wife, son (9) and I spent three nights last week at Drakesbad, in the Warner Valley section of Lassen Volcanic National Park. We'll definitely come back -- it's a wonderful place to stay for solitude, natural beauty, and really good food. Drakesbad includes three meals per day, prepared by a very enthusiastic and welcoming staff. The facility is very... More

I had to laugh at the entire 3-star August 2010 review. That's exactly the kind of person the rest of us who love Drakesbad don't to share a table with either. There are no phones - cell or otherwise, computers or TVs and electricity is limited. You have to drive in on a dirt road. You may encounter logging trucks.... More

The place is rather unique with a long history.I stayed here to have access to the South Eastern part of Lassen Volcanic NP.There are some excellent hikes to do from the lodge including Boiling Lake,Devils Kitchen,Kings Creek Falls and Sifford Lakes, also much longer hikes if you are energetic. Rooms are in a central lodge or cabins. My room{5 in the lodge}... More

Located within the borders of Lassen National Park, Drakesbad Ranch is an out of the way hidden gem. We stayed at Drakesbad in a cabin for three nights. It reminded me of summer camp when I was a child. I really enjoyed the experience. The cabin was comfortable for the two of us with a toilet and sink. There is... More

Drakesbad may be pleasant enough, I suppose, for residents of the Sacramento valley who want to escape its 100 degree heat. The place seems to draw families with small children and grandparents. Children can play ping-pong, while gramps sits on the porch and looks out at a dry meadow with a bit too much skunk cabbage. But if you want... More

No phones, newspapers, Internet; or even electricity in the rooms (kerosene lamps are provided), and a few have bathrooms down the hall. Located at the end of an unpaved road from the town of Chester in northeast California. But luxury of a dusty country sort, with three excellent meals a day included, a small heated pool, ping-pong table, croquet set,... More
