After having spent 2 weeks in national parks' campgrounds, we were disappointed by this state beach camping. While the location is really really nice (2 minutes away from the beautiful beach and quite close to Santa Barbara by car), we can complain about almost everything else : the camp was packed with groups/families that were noisy until at least midnight... Camped here with my 2 children. The location was great - right next to the beach. Beach was fab as well. Was very disappointed with the toilet and shower facilities. They needed a good clean and were more like public toilets than campsite toilets. Quite disgusting. Camp pitches were quite tightly packed (assume because it is quite close to Santa... More

This was our 3rd and final trip to Carpinteria SB. While we love love love the location. Easily accessible beach from all campsites and they have always been a bit lacking in the beauty of the campsite but now, it is terribly dirty. We always travel with a group as a mini family reunion. This year we opted for a... More

We camped here one night on our way up the coast. They really cram the people in here and the sites are so close you can hear your neighbors conversations. It is not very private, especially for tent camping. All was quiet at night after 10 pm. The beach is so close you can hear the waves, which is the... More

Let's start with the pros, since this will be quick: it's by the beach. Ok, now the cons: The place is ridiculously overpriced, starting at $45 a night for a tent, which is twice (yes, TWICE) as much as most camp grounds in much more beautiful and exciting parts of California, like San Francisco, Sequoia National Park, Yosemite, etc. For... We left cold and wet Vancouver Island and arrived here and we were excited to see the sun and beach. It is like a parking lot with hook-ups, no privacy. But who cares, it's the beach we came for. Campers and staff were both friendly. The beach is at your doorstep and easy access. Great sunsets. I would come again.

Great spot. Beautiful beach for walking. Very fun for the first night in our new trailer. Sunset was lovely even though it rained before we got there. The dunes and trees were so "beachy". It was January and we loved it.

I've reviewed this campground before and made some critical remarks. However, we've been back numerous times since, so here's a new review. Yes, some campsites are close together and if you are next to a noisy group of 8 who want to stay up late and party, and if you don't, you are going to be unhappy. There is not... More

Pros: beautiful, easily accessible beach from all campsites. Relatively easy to get in and out of. Friendly and generally helpful rangers. Cons: can be very crowded and noisy. Campsites are on the small side, and very close together, so there is no privacy at all. Limits to numbers of campers per site seem to be inconsistently enforced. Train tracks run... More

We camp in Carpinteria State Beach 4-5 times a year and just love it! The beach is very close to the campground in some of the sites and a 100-200 yard walk from other sites. There are four different camping areas, two areas that are no-hook-ups,one area that is full hook-ups,one with partial hook-ups. The prices vary with the ammenities... More
