We camped here one night on our way up the coast. They really cram the people in here and the sites are so close you can hear your neighbors conversations. It is not very private, especially for tent camping. All was quiet at night after 10 pm. The beach is so close you can hear the waves, which is the... More

Let's start with the pros, since this will be quick: it's by the beach. Ok, now the cons: The place is ridiculously overpriced, starting at $45 a night for a tent, which is twice (yes, TWICE) as much as most camp grounds in much more beautiful and exciting parts of California, like San Francisco, Sequoia National Park, Yosemite, etc. For... We left cold and wet Vancouver Island and arrived here and we were excited to see the sun and beach. It is like a parking lot with hook-ups, no privacy. But who cares, it's the beach we came for. Campers and staff were both friendly. The beach is at your doorstep and easy access. Great sunsets. I would come again.

Great spot. Beautiful beach for walking. Very fun for the first night in our new trailer. Sunset was lovely even though it rained before we got there. The dunes and trees were so "beachy". It was January and we loved it.

I've reviewed this campground before and made some critical remarks. However, we've been back numerous times since, so here's a new review. Yes, some campsites are close together and if you are next to a noisy group of 8 who want to stay up late and party, and if you don't, you are going to be unhappy. There is not... More

Pros: beautiful, easily accessible beach from all campsites. Relatively easy to get in and out of. Friendly and generally helpful rangers. Cons: can be very crowded and noisy. Campsites are on the small side, and very close together, so there is no privacy at all. Limits to numbers of campers per site seem to be inconsistently enforced. Train tracks run... More

We camp in Carpinteria State Beach 4-5 times a year and just love it! The beach is very close to the campground in some of the sites and a 100-200 yard walk from other sites. There are four different camping areas, two areas that are no-hook-ups,one area that is full hook-ups,one with partial hook-ups. The prices vary with the ammenities... More

What you are paying for here is the location right next to the beach for a fraction of the cost of a hotel on the beach. We went with a family with a large group on kids so we had a blast. We also got to see quite a few dolphins which the kids thought were fantastic. The train does... More

While it does front directly onto the ocean, if you don't have a front line pitch, this is little more than a car park, a patch of dirt next to a chain-link fence and the railway line. The pitches are very close together, and are better suited to RVs than tents. We ended up sleeping in the car because the... More

We have been camping here since 1979 because we love the location on the beach and the convenient location near the lovely, small city of Carpinteria. Over the years the rates charged for camping have more than doubled (we paid $65/night on beach row), but the condition of the grounds, restrooms, and plants have declined significantly. Sand is an inch... More
