I once actually stayed at La Playa for more than 2 weeks–– simply because the staff was so nice, the restaurant so delightful, my room and my children's rooms were gorgeous, with great views, and the whole atmosphere breathed relaxation and sympathy! In fact one has to like old historic Carmel, and actively dislike glitz to "get" La Playa. One... more

We stayed at the LaPlaya Hotel in November. It is a very quaint hotel but the rooms are tiny, the windows are old and drafty. The bathrooms are little and who ever does their room maintenance should be fired. The sink was dripping all night. No elevator The staff was pleasant but the Grill restaurant employees are rude. more

La Playa is a picturesque hotel with an old town charm. It's conveniently located 2 blocks from the beach and maybe 4 blocks from the Carmel downtown. We really enjoyed our stay there. more

The accommodations were wonderful (especially after a free upgrade to an oceanview room because of some street noise outside my window). The food was fabulous, and most important of all to me was the incredible service provided by every staff person I dealt with. They were helpful and gracious at every turn. Will surely stay here again. more

I wish I could give this hotel a 4* or a 5* rating because it had the potential in many aspects. It was so charming with beautiful gardens & grounds and with a great location close to the ocean including a view from some of the rooms. But I can't give it any more than a 3* rating because of... more

Outstanding location and grounds...rooms are a bit tired and staff attitude does not live up to luxury standards. I would return but would be very careful about which rooms I would choose. more

Once again we had a great time staying at La Playa Hotel. This trip was to celebrate my wifes 40th birthday. So I decided to call Brian with Romantic Room Designs to have him work his magic. Brian and I arranged to have the room decorated while my wife and I were out to dinner. When we got back to... more

I our stay at La Player was quite frankly the worst experience I have ever had in a Hotel branded as “Luxury”. I came over from England for my wife’s 10th Wedding anniversary. We stayed at some great hotels including the the Awanee in Yosemite & the Dolphin at Shell Beach where the service was excellent and the staff friendly.... more

La Playa is almost a century old which by CA standards is really old. If you are expecting sleek and flashy luxery this is not the place for you. If you want quiet, peaceful charm here you are. Each room is a bit different. The furniture is not your typical hotel furniture but rather in keeping with the rest of... more

Enjoyed two nights at LaPlaya. We had a nice corner room with plantation shutters. The "Romance Pkg" so champagne and very large chocolate covered strawberries awaited us! It was wonderful. We had a (distant) view of the ocean and gardens below. The rooms are nice; however, the bathroom is very, very small. The hotel is historic with many pictures along... more
